How if all women moved to the back tees ? And if they gots rid of tee colors ?

Recommended Posts

Woulds the guys playings the wrong tees finally realize how they hold up courses ands stuffs ? Woulds their comments abouts the women nots being *long* enoughs make it into their own brains ? I am assuming ego woulds still *make* them tee it up on back tees even if there was no more *red* color.

I personally believes as long as men haves egos this will never *sink in* , so never , but woulds be nice if these peoples woulds understand how dumb it really is.

And the arguments abouts they pay , so they haves right to do the stupid things is just a big *fail* to me. I coulds pay to goto a baseball game ands have rights to stand up ands block peoples behind me the whole time from watching. It is stupid though ands rude and selfish. At least the stadium workers woulds do something abouts it if told. Not like most pointless rangers or marshals , who do nothing , especially if it is their friends being the idiots.

Beings girl who can hit it pretty far , i gets comments if i move up or move back , so i lose either ways. I just wish tees woulds start putting markers tellings how far it is to 150 yards from middle of greens. No colors , no anything else. Maybe enough peoples woulds start to see if it is 300 yards ands they drive it 250 yards , they needs to be moving up tees.

I know when i follow two , three , or four guys as a single girl (walkings or riding) , they barely ever let me through. So i haves to skip holes or play five hour rounds by myself. I know the tee *issue* is a huge problem with lots of peoples , but until the PGA runs a *Stop the Denial* campaigns on amateurs believings they are better or longer thans they actually are - i see no way it changes. A shame for peoples who show respects for others and care abouts pace of play ands ettiquettes while on a golf course.

Nots talking abouts looking down on lacks of skills which causes slower play. But less skilled should really move up too , until better at playing.

I work part-time at the course where I play (nothing beats free golf) and I see it all the time; people playing the back tees that have no business playing there. At my course if you are not a single digit player you shouldn't even look at the back tees, but there always seems to be plenty of players who want to beat themselves up.

Egos are a terrible thing.

No ego for me... If its a long course.. I'll play a box up if Im unfamiliar with the course..

Always play the tips for courses under 6800... If its over and I don't know it... Screw it... Id play from the ladies box if I had to...

I have a buddy who's a 437 handicap....

He plays from the " ladies box " while I play from the tips all the time.

Here's the thing.... We want it to stop being an ego thing... Stop referring to it as the ladies box...

It's not designed for women... Is designed based on handicap. Pure and simple.

Yes but isn't there a formula for calculating a course and slope for the set of tees where a men's calculation hasn't been made?

I usually see three. Back, middle, front (usually something like blue, white, red). Once in a while there will be an even farther back set of tees, maybe black or gold or something. And other times there might be a set of junior tees like 50+ yards ahead of the next shortest tees.

Don't know how common it is, but on my home course (in the US) there are the standard blue, white, read plus a 4th set of tees yellow (for "seniors") between the white and red (closer to the red than white on most holes). This allows men to play it forward w/o feeling like they are playing from the women's tees. e.g. total yardages - blue 6731, white 6338, yellow 5740, red 5499.

White = competition tees, cannot be used unless playing a comp, your a banned if your seen on them in normal play
Why bother? Why not just put a set of tees there for competitions only and not put a set of tees there when it isn't competition?

Yeah me too, we always play off the whites no matter what otherwise when it comes to comps its too different.

Ah what. I'd love to play off whites all the time. My home course actually plays better off of the whites imo

Maybe it's a local thing. In Spain. I played off the whites

Sure there is. But not providing the numbers on the card further demonstrates that these tees are "woman's" tees. And if one truly wants to encourage men to play up, this would be addressed.

Oh! I see what you're saying. Yeah, I agree 100%.

Thought you meant that men couldn't play there. No, I agree, if the course wanted to encourage men to move up, they'd put the numbers on the card.

Personally, I like playing the redbirds now and then. It gets the confidence going and gets you into the "nervous" state. I play them, get it a bunch under par and then when I get in a tournament and I'm 19 over (:D), I don't get as nervous when it counts.

Current handicap is 10.1, and I play the tips (6980 yards at my preferred course). The main reason is so that I get a chance to use most of the clubs in my bag. Their color order is Yellow, Blue, White, Green and Red, I could play the white, and have wedges into all the greens but that doesn't really interest me. I've got the wrong combination of driver and shaft at the moment, and am only averaging 250-255 yards, but nearly 7000 yards is still very doable with good iron striking.

My course:

Black - 7100

Blue - 6600

White - 6100

Gold - 5500

Red - 4900
Conceding that MANY men play from the wrong tees.

I also believe that "womens" tees can be too long. My mom enjoys the game, but it is not feasible for her to play on many courses. She is hitting driver-wood on most holes. She doesn't find it enjoyable anymore and has given up the game.

Great comment Saw, you are spot on. All tee boxes need to be rated for each gender. That would make it very easy to associate the tee box with the appropriate handicap at the time of check in. Helps with enjoyment and definitely PoP.

At my course we actually have 6 (or 7 tees). 3 are men's tees, one is a men's senior tee/ women's tee, and two more are women's tees. Then, in the summer, Junior tees are placed out at the beginning of the fairway. In addition to those, we have two or three "hybrid" tee boxes, that are a mix of the 3 men's tees, and you can get a special scorecard for these upon request. Tips are a little over 7200, shortest permanent tees are 4700.

My home courses have four sets of tees: black, blue, white, gold. I don't think I've ever seen a woman play from tees she has no business playing from, but you can believe I've seen MANY men playing from the entirely wrong tees. Yes indeed, EGO can be a terrible thing when playing golf and it creates an awful lot of slow play. Tell me, why on earth would a man who's about 75 yrs old, with a 25+ handicap, play from the blues???

I haves hard times believings that if *Red* tees were rated for guys , they woulds move up to them. Colors shoulds be taken out , or just make all tees the same colours with Letters to follow right tee boxes each hole. Guys just do nots want to show or admit they cannots hit it far. As if 220 off a 450 four par hole , does nots show it plain enoughs.

Ands would be nice to haves more back tees rated for female golfers. If i move back , i am playings against the men's handicap. I do nots care , but basically i am keeping a man's handicap most times. Ands moving up is too easy for me , and woulds not help either. Just confused as to points of female / male handicap ratings beings seperate. If i am good enoughs to play 7,000 courses ands shoot near or under par , i do nots need the *extra* strokes the female rating woulds be from that tee.

I agree with everything you said Sam. The USGA talks about the Tee it Forward initiative, but no one seems to be doing anything about it. As to your specific issue, I have a good friend I play a lot of golf with, and occasionally with his 15 year old daughter. She plays the back tees at our practice facility. If some guys are waiting they kind of roll their eyes...until she hits her tee shot. ha ha. Usually around 250 or 260 right down the middle with a baby draw. She played in the US Women's Open last year at 14, and has won a boat load of tournaments. She's probably a +4 HI.

Personally I think this whole men vs. women issue in golf is becoming pretty tired. Let's say I end up playing with Sam here. What am I to tell her to play the red tees so that I don't need to feel bad about not being able to hit the ball as well as she does? If my confidence is so poor that it is shattered either by a young women hitting a golf ball better than me or by anybody questioning my manhood because I choose to play shorter tees, I'd better spend the money on therapy instead of golf equipment and green fees.

Maybe the solution does not lie in education (we all know how well that is working) but in the scrapping of the men's/women's rating for the course on different tees altogether. Just have a single rating for all tees and then tweak the handicap calculation rules so that handicaps are calculated differently to men and women using the single rating.

There could also be additional tweaks in the handicap calculation that for high handicappers reward playing the short tees. Let's say hypothetically that I play pretty consistent bogey golf. If I play smart I can score bogies with more or less the same consistency from shortish (white in this part of the planet) and longish (blue) tees. In the current system there is a handicapping reward for me in playing the longer tees (which have a higher course rating). I would even get away with more bad holes if playing from the longish tees. Now if the handicapping rules were tweaked to punish me more than the number of lost shots for blow-up holes if playing from longer tees (relative to my handicap) but rewarded me a bit more than one shot vs. a bogey for pars if playing from shorter tees (relative to my handicap) obviously I would have a strong incentive to play from the shorter tees.

With all the software calculating handicaps the programmers would have a ball not seen since the change of the millennium.

edit: typo.

Even though I almost always play from the blues, I'm confident that I'm playing from the correct tees.

Now last week, I played with a father/son twosome who hit their average drives maybe 220. They constantly played their 2nd shot with a wood since they were playing from the blues. It killed me that the father would laser every shot when 1.He rarely hit a good shot and 2.Him and his son were 280 yards out and waited for the group ahead of us to get off the green. Needless to say, we struggled to keep up with the WALKING 5-SOME ahead of us.

About the men/women tees thing though. I don't automatically say a man and woman has to play from here or there. In high school, we had a girl who was longer than I was. I'm more upset when I see someone hit a shot and they're obviously playing from the wrong tee (man or woman). I guess I judge more on a person's skills than their gender.
