Tiger testing a few drivers

Recommended Posts

I just saw Tiger's press conference on ESPN. This is probably old news, but he said the SUMO and SUMO squared are not going into the bag. He said that although they gave him more distance, he thought they had too much spin which didn't allow him to hold the fairways.

This makes no sense Tiger. More spin would enable him to hit MORE fairways. Less spin would cause the ball to run THROUGH the fairways.

Yep, my bad. That's what I get for not reading what I post. The SUMO didn't give him enough backspin, which let too many drives roll out on him. Thanks for catching that typo.

Can someone tell me why, in the top picture, the guy carrying the spare drivers is carrying what looks to be a Titleist style graphic (the one closest to his left knee)? I certainly don't see any yellow on it indicating an SQ or derivative thereof....

well monday i was at leonards here in fort worth and the nike testing (iron byron type thing) is set up next to me hitting with a driver that looked alot like this it caught my i because there was no yellow on the bottom and sounded very different thatn any other nikes ive heard so maybe its just a proto but takes this for what its woth it was defenitely something new unless there testing old stuuf which would be stupid :drinks: so i no its some new driver

Torque 3.5 only ???

sound high?

3.5 might seem high but you can't compare Epic to other graphite shafts because it isn't truly a graphite shaft. The material is not found in any other shaft in the world and the 3.5 torque was found to be the best suited for feel through 3 years of desogn work. The torsionally stability is significantly better than other graphite shafts.

I just got back from the Demo day for the show and the feedback was great. Maybe another member that was there will chome in with his own opinion. We've got an exciting couple days a head of us.

so what are we looking at? high launch? low lauch? high spin? low spin?

True Temper-

So what are the specs on this shaft? High, Mid, Low, Launch? High, Mid, Low, Spin? I need some better specs so I can figure out which head and loft to put one in? Also can you give us some more feedback from the pro's if you have any? Thanks

The shaft will be formally introduced tomorrow, so by this time tomorrow you will have quite a few more stats and impressions so you can decide on what you want.

Good things come to those who wait . . . :drinks:

a pal of mine works for Nike who tells me Tiger has and always will never forget his Titleist driver & this picture is TW testing the D1 driver from Titleist.

as in F1 racing everyone needs to know what the other team are doing, in this instance TW has reputedly told TS that he gets more control with the Titleist & Nike are working on aspects to acheive what TW wants!!

i must say the photographer has captured a fantastic picture!!

Take a chill pill dude! And then while you are at it, look at the bottom of the clubs. The contrasts in hue are different and in places where it should be a lighter gray, it isn't -- meaning that that club is NOT the normal SQ he has used in the past. Judging by the shape of it, it is conventional, so it isn't the new Nike Square head. Looking at some of the Titleist drivers out there, the hue gradation are curved -- not square like the SQ's. The driver next to the leg is aslo sweeping cruved, not angular in nature. I am saying that it reminds me of a Titleist style driver but I didn't say that it definitely is. It could be a proprietary head that may go commercial shortly (so as to satisfy PGA rules)? Who knows? The only point to be made is that there is NO YELLOW paint on it and the lack of angularity of the shadings on the bottom are reminiscent of something I've seen from Titleist.

Nuff said -- now please, go take another pill while you are at it.

Well said my fellow!! There is a lot that goes on & although NIKE hate to admit Titleist is still a favourite of Mr Woods!!

How would the Sumo2 have too little spin when its such an extremely high spin head? They much have modified the hell out of that thing to reduce the spin that much.

Possibly because you have incorrect info from that other website.

Others who have tested the Sumo2 Head inside with 3 launch monitors and many golfers have concluded it is a lower spin head.

Don't believe that other website that makes a blanket conclusion based on one golfer and one outside LM.

Negative Ghost Rider, look and you will see a hint of yellow and the "fins" attributed to the SQ line.

no, look at the hosels. they are all they same. you can see the polished sole plate on just like the other two drivers and you can see a yellow tone fin between the drivers, and the biggest sign that this is not a titliest driver - there is no bore thru on the sole.

see this post on the d1 and d2 - golfwrx - d1 and d2 pics

Stop the Madness......

The three drivers in the picture all nike SQ drivers.

I must say FPG your source is crap. And take wcholmes advice, take the pill. Thank God Nike Proto was reading this thread so he "stop the madness" before it really got ridiculous.

I wanted to say something to the Titleist guy about 5 in the morning -- as even in my blurry eyed state, I could see the yellow and no bore-thru.

But it wouldn't have been nice. I'm cranky before coffee.

Glad you guys took care of this matter.

Thanks.

No offense to you but Tiger was not testing a D1 driver or a proto of that companies equipment. All Tiger has done is switch out of that product with great success, while continuing to add Nike products to his bag and win. He could win with any product that he plays with because of his ability but lets not forget that he chose to play this equipment and he could play and be paid whatever amount he wanted by any OEM. Tiger is all about winning and that is it, he will play the best product available to him because he is only chasing history not endorsments. I am confused where you would get the IDEA he prefers Titelist equipment or that he would never forget his Tity driver? Funny because at the PGA in Rochester he put his old driver in play to see if it was the equipment or his swing...I think he went to the ignite driver and won a couple majors??? Tiger just had the opportunity to switch OEM's this past year and I am willing to bet the "farm" that any brand especially the 3 larger companies would have given him whatever he wants. I believe he has proved with his putter that he is going to play what he feels comfortable with.

FYI...The D1 driver is utilizing GEOMETRY(triangle shape) which Nike started, which makes me wonder why you would think that nike would prototype a driver for Tiger that they put on the Market last year(SQ MAX). I mean no disrespect to you but I am finding it hard to believe that you could be serious with your comments aout Titleist and Tiger. I for one think that Titleist is a great brand and I personally like thier products and I am sure that the D1 is a great driver. What I am confused about is why Titleist is alway brought up when the topic of Tiger and Nike drivers comes up.

We all are entitled to our opinion and thats what makes this forum so great but it is amazing when this type of stuff is spread around...that belongs on the other forum!

:D :drinks: :stop: :drinks:
