Bent Shaft Integrity - Will it Play the Same After Bent Straight?

Quick question:

 

A few weeks back I bent the PX 6.0 Flighted shaft on my PW after hitting from pine straw and striking a tree root that I didn't know was beneath. The bend is not very pronounced and is gradual, the shaft bends about 4-6" above the ferrule of the head.

 

When looking down the club it looks like the club is delofted a few degrees and probably now plays like an offset 9 iron.

 

My club guy says that he may be able to bend it back straight... But my main question is, if he is successful in doing so; will the shaft play the same as it did before? Or is the integrity of the kick point and performance compromised?

Once you have put enough stress on a metal to pass it's yield point the place where it has stretched is not reversible. You can attempt to straighten it but it will never be exactly as straight as it was since the metal dimensions have been permanently changed.

Does it make a determinable difference to the club performance? Just try it out. The worst that can happen is you have to replace the shaft if the bending doesn't do it for you. If the bend is a gradual as you say it is don't worry about the structural integrity.

Thanks. My guy tells me that he was able to get the bend out of the shaft so I guess I'll just have to see how it plays and see if I notice any difference there.

I've bent two shafts in past... a PW and a 6 iron.... never played the same and the PW shaft snapped where it was bent back above hosel. Plus the possibility of it throwing off clubhead won't go away in your head.....just get a replacement. It's nice of him to bend it back, but he should know better than to think its anything but a cosmetic band-aid.

Get it replaced and be done with it. Why mess around.

Replace it. See what happens with a paperclip when you bend it? It weakens after the initial bend. Stress will make it weaker and weaker bending more and more every time you use it until it fails. Steel shafts don't cost that much, but the shaft snapping and injuring someone will.
