Used to play with an old lady at my old club her late husband was a former competitive player and her grandson could boom the ball. Never knew her real age but always thought mid 70's. She was a blast to play with and played fast walked the front 9 grabbed a cart for the back, Saw her shoot mid 70's a bunch of times. Almost always 3:00-3:30 rounds as a 4 ball.

She definitely went against the stereotype but I would prob not want to be stuck behind an entire senior social outing as you describe

Quality topic. Lets see how this one goes then I'll put up a random useless gripe against some other group of people, see if we can't really get this ball rolling!

Here is what you do, get put into one of the groups. I have had some very enjoyable rounds with the old guys. Between the story telling and the complements they throw at you for hitting goods shots it is a layed back fun round.

That being said I would not want to be in the group behind the whole pack. I have gone so far as to know what days the local courses run seniors day and ladies league and I will avoid them on those days if time is tight.

If I could, I would play all my rounds with seniors, they have the best stories, talk the most sh*t, and chances are you can learn some important things (not talking golf). Old people are the best, I hope to be one someday

Most of the older guys at our club play pretty fast, they hit the ball straight and don't care too much for the result so they pull the trigger on the shot without a lot of stuffing around.

The guys that tend to take the most time are the 10-14 handicappers who think they could play to 4 or better, take 3-4 practice swings per shot and plumb every putt from a couple of different angles. The stereotypical player I am talking about is also some sort of reasonably successful professional in their field, say an accountant, geologist, engineer etc.

The old guys do scuff the greens when they don't lift their feet, but they don't play slow for the most part.

Amen to that. I am 22 years old, and just 2 years ago I was an 18 index. I am now a 4 and still trending down.

Next to practice and a few lessons, I almost entirely attribute my rapid improvement to playing almost all of my rounds with members and our Head Pro that our +50. I learned more about the game of golf watching them play than I probably ever would have simply taking lessons. The older players are so much fun to play with and have so much to share not only about golf but about living life.

OP, you come off as ignorant when you slight an entire genaration of golfers. Oh and I would put $20 that most 60+ year olds play a helluva lot quicker than under 60 year olds. Just sayin'.

I played as a single on Monday and was behind a foursome of older gentlemen. Not sure exact age but I would say on the + side of 50. I was behind them for the entire back nine and when I first pulled up to 10 I was praying they were going to let me play through because I figured it would be a 4 hour back nine. I couldn't have been more wrong. I wish more people at the course I play at played as quick as these 4. If they did there would be no more complaining about pace of play!

I was invited to play at another course with the members in their skins & pins game. I was paired with the three oldest members all late 70's. they were the funniest guys I've ever played with! It was like the movie Grumpy Old Men but unfiltered...great guys all around.

I don't like playing behind any league..men..women or seniors. They take forever, I was out at a local course a few weeks back working on putting during a womans league and watched a group take 45 minutes to get through a 300 yard par 4 and a 100 yard par 3..I'm guessing that was a 3 hour 9 hole round easy. Most mens leagues on weekday afternoons only take about 30 minutes off of that total, if I'm gonna go watch grass grow for 2 and a half why not make it 3? The courses let them do it because most of these slots are paid in advanced so nobody would even dare think to piss off a league!

This is not fun at all and is why the course is not playable except for Mon, Tu, Thu (weekends including Friday are too slow).

Had a lot of fun playing with seniors myself as well and have yet to play with a slow one. They kill me how they just pull the trigger then they get to the green and it either par of bogey like clockwork. Really is fun for me as a struggling golfer to watch. Wednesdays around here are usually pretty good days to play and you can get around in a decent time as well if you so desire. We had time to search for a buddies ball today and enjoy the views and still get it done in under 3.5 hours. Even saw a group behind so pulled over for 10 minutes to let them through, but they must have been struggling so we took off and never saw them again.

Ive never had any issues with pace of play from older folks, its usually the hack that thinks he is a pro that slows everything down. I to love playing with the older crowd they are the best...

I love going and playing golf with my grandfather and his friends all of whom are around 85. I was once in the last group with them and some younger guys were yelling from the tee box to hurry up. Needless to say it was quite rude. On one of the holes they decided to tee off while we were still relatively close I'd say only 200 out and the ball proceeded to carry over us in the air without so much of even a "fore". I was rather ticked...tee'd the ball up proceeded to hit the ball well past the tee box back at them. Then decided to drive back to them once they started screaming at me. After a few "kind" words with them they decided it would be best if they packed up and left.
Golfing with older generations is more fun than golfing with my own age group

Nope, any day on the course is better than at work so there are not many days I would avoid the course. On the other hand, I can tolerate bad golf, now, slow and bad, forget it. I start to loose my patience after 3 holes and he body language tells it all when the players in front are looking back at me. I would not take it as far as hitting into anyone as it is a game and not worth possibly injuring anyone. But man there are some days!

I normally end up getting paired with someone older than me, I would say 98% of the time (I'm 22). The seniors are typically the best to get paired with. They typically walk and keep up a good pace. Hit par about every other hole but never over a double. Great stories and that classic old man ribbing. Really taught me a lot about course management when a 78yr old and his wife that both couldn't hit the ball over 175 took me to the woodshed in March.

I wouldn't ever play behind the socialite seniors though. The golf socialites/Fowler wanna-be's, in my opinion, are the worst. It's almost as bad as being stuck behind a high school tournament.

It really depends on the course and how they stack tee times.

We have a local muni that stacks tee times 3 minutes apart, they force you into a 4 some ( me and two buddies made a tee time once and had to let 7 groups tee before us until a single showed up ) and each hole has a nazi marshal on each hole. To bad because its a nice course but I never went back
