Torn Hammy--Early End to My Season!

Well, Tuesday evening I was walking from my kitchen to my family room when I tripped over my own two feet. As I was going down, I felt my hamstring tear (twice). The pain was excruciating as I lay on the floor. My wife called our primary physician, and he advised me to see an Orthopaedist. I went to the Ortho on Wednesday morning and he didn't even do an MRI. He said it was probably torn, but it didn't really matter because they don't do surgery on muscle tears, just let them heal. If there are any complications I should let him know in my follow-up visit and he will do an MRI.

 

Had to w/d from a tournament I was looking forward to playing, but on the bright side, I got some great painkillers. I feel really old and feeble as I trudge around the house with a walker. Looks like I'm on the shelf for 6-8 weeks, although it seems like they tell everyone who has any kind of malady that recovery is 6-8 weeks when 10-12 weeks is more like the norm.

 

I guess I'll have to get all of my golf thrills through golfwrx for a while.

That's terrible!!!!! Can't imagine tearing a hammy. I pulled one several weeks ago and had to hobble around for a while, plus it felt like a huge rock in my leg that hurt like h$#l any time I sat down.

On the bright side, we're getting into the full season for tourneys. Hopefully the wife feels sorry enough for you to let you watch a lot of golf on TV.

That totally sucks man. That has to be my biggest fear, not being able to play, especially in season. I'm purposely not getting my shoulder looked at for that reason.

Tough break. I feel bad knowing someone else has my brand of luck. This can be a difficult recovery, depending on how badly the muscle is torn. Mine had terrible swelling and discoloration from some internal bleeding. Hopefully, yours is not as severe. The first week was the worst. Finding a way to move without further damaging the injury and not being able to sleep is tough.

Good luck with recovery and make sure you get someone to help with proper rehab or this could nag you for years.

Did the same a few years ago. Tried to sprint (race) against my 20 year old kid. Tear, scream, pain, whine, whine, wine, beer, scotch, internal bleeding, ice, heat, RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation), wait, wait, wait, frustration, back playing too early, set-back, wait, wait. OK. 4 months. Sorry dude.

You should find a doctor that specializes in blood platelet, plasma, or stem cell injections. It's what professional athletes do. It will cut your rehab time in half.

On a serious note, I truly feel for you. Losing two to three months would kill me especially after just getting the season going. I offer only my best wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery.
