Adams super ls FW and Hybrid review

Hi Folks - be nice, this is my first attempt at a review

 

Background. 9.6 index. Inconsistent ball striker. Driver @95mph. @230 yard carry. Smooth tempo.

 

Current set up: Ping G20 4wd (16*) Ust Axiv black 76 reg. Adams 18* (idea pro original) Proto vs 80g reg. Adams 22* adams a12 pro (matrix altus 80 reg) and adams a12pro 26* that I will not be replacing.

 

Current distance: Even though I work at a large Canadian golf retailer, I can't hit to save my life in the simulator - So all my yardages are what i can figure out from playing. 3w - 210 carry, 18* - 200, 23* - 190. You can figure out by now, that I'm not one of the 'big bombers' on this board. So I hope can help some of the 'normal' golfers out there.

 

New set up: super LS 3w (set to 16*) stock KK reg. LS 19*H & 22*H. both stock KK 80reg.

 

Looks: I must admit the white only took a little time to get used to but after that, no distraction at all. The speed slot was more of a 'distraction' The deep face of the 3W initially worried me because of my SS. I'm used to playing shallower faces. The Hybrids instilled more confidence because they were larger. The faces are a tad bit open.

 

Feel: I never liked my 3W. My current set up just doesn't feel correct. It's hard to describe but the combo of shaft, head, SW, weight, never felt correct. As a matter of fact, all my previous 3W's felt the same way (G15 with Arthur extreme 70reg; sonartec ss-01 76 v2 reg). The individual parts worked, the g20 head was very solid feeling, the shaft was smooth, but together, they didn't work!

 

The 3w super LS combo was the best I've ever hit. Shaft and head was great for me. The feel of the face is just a tad bit harder than the feel of the A12pro hybrid. More on the muted side than the 'ping/tinnier' side. The shaft, for me, was a great mix of smooth and kick. I play a Fubuki 'K' in my driver, and it plays similar but just a tad less kick, same smoothness.

 

The hybrids had a lot to match as I believe my current hybrids feel awesome! The 19* LS set up beats my old set up. The KK feels better than my VS Proto (which feels dead to me, smooth, but no kick). Although the head on my old 19* is a tad more 'solid' which I prefer. But the new LS does have that distinct 'spring' (with the speed slot). The new LS still is very acceptable for my feel preference - and with the performance (get to next ) I can definitely get used to it.

 

Finally my old 23* is one of my favs. The feel of the head and the way the Altus feels, hard to beat. For those playing an altus - the firm, but not boardy, feel but with kick, and that high launch and low spin - is just awesome. However, I can get used to my new 22*, as it feels and performs like the 19*

 

Distance: 3W - The times I have hit my 3W, from both the tee and fairway, can definitely say it flies further (on good hits). I always have trouble with my 3w - but the LS combo works for me. It's not the honeymoon period because I've play over 10 rounds with it. On bad swings, I can still feel the balance and the ball still gets in the air easier than previous 3W. Also more forgiving - shots hit on toe, heel, low all get airborne and further than old 3W. How far you may ask, honestly, I can't say, but I am further from where I used to hit it from.

 

19*H and 22*H - it's not even close. I can guarantee 10yards further and sometimes more because it it soooo much more forgiving. The ball flight is low and piercing to start, but then it rises half way before coming down on a running trajectory. A difference from my high launch old hybrids. Once again, I can't give you real numbers but in real life rounds, much further than were I used to hit from / or hit to.

 

Conclusion: I am really glad I purchased these. They do work - for me at least. I was wondering when I purchased them if the 'S' would be better for me but a little bit of ego (i'll admit since I work in the golf industry) wanted to play the 'players' club, and so far I can handle them. The issue about hitting the ball too far actually applies to this normal guy! Yeah! I also use a 26* adams a12pro as my 5 iron and will have a gap between the '4' and '5' irons as well as '5' iron to 6 iron. Hope this helps some of you - I know I can't give you numbers, but I can't hit into the simulator. If there are any questions, I will do my best to answer them.

Thanks for the review. I just got the same 3 wood with the same flex. We have similar swingspeeds but Im a little more inconsistent than you because your index is about 9 strokes lower.

I have not played a round with it and only one range session. I had a hard time hitting it compared to my trusty TEE XCG 3. It seems heavier to me and all my other clubs are swing weighted to the same spec as the super LS (D2)

I bought it for distance and was curious why you consider this a players club? The limited reviews out there say there is a large distance discrepancy between the S and LS
