where should i play in texas but more around Austin

well i leave on vacation tomorrow - first bit is Calgary and i dont think i will be getting much golf there due to the flooding...

 

i have yet to book my flight but think i arrive in Austin on the 15th July and fly out back to Scotland on the 29th July... i will be hiring a car for the 2 weeks and intention is to golf every second day... i have never golfed in america outside of Florida... i am staying with a friend but he will be working on week days i am assuming...

 

i play to a 5 handicap so a good golfer and will be taking my clubs... My membership here in scotland is to a parkland course but do play lots of links golf...

 

i just want to experience some good golf - some cheaper courses and some more expensive... Just want to see what everyone recommends? especially for someone on their lonesome for golf...

Wolfdancer is quite good. Horseshoe Bay has a $224 deal for two golfers with a one night hotel that is a good value for Ram and Apple Rock courses.
Regrettably, Escondido is changing greens and will be closed -- that's the best one around.
Bring lots of sunscreen - it will be hot. We're headed your way July 5 -- two weeks in Fife!

+1 to Falconhead-- during the week it is much more reasonable to play. Plus its a PGA tour design course? yeah. one of my favorites in the area.

Add Forest Creek GC in Round Rock to the list great track will require you to use every club in your bag.

I've posted in the other thread but
Barton creek canyons ( try calling and type can get on usually around 100 to 150)
Twin creeks ( they had some groupons running but they ended so try calling ( under 100)
Star ranch just a fun layout and it great shape
Tera vista also fun layout
Falcon head ( if its in good shape ) is my favorite public
Onion creek . Played it for first time and loved it. Short course but very narrow and greens were quick
Avery ranch isn't my favorite but not for any particular reason

been through the ones listed and some very good prices there...

played today in Canada on my first half of vacation and shot 85 second worst round of the year - better improve without playing before i get to texas...

i am planning a possible trip to houston on 28th or 26th July where would a good course to paly that day be???

Houston is huge . What part of town? Woodlands is far north of Houston
Best course is woodforest IMO . I think many wrx ers agree too
