Just found out the answer to my question. Taylormade is taking orders now, Spider Mallets ship August 1st.

Thanks for the review! That's a good looking mallet. It really frames the ball nicely. I like the feel of the spider blade but I haven't found a 35" one to try and I'm not wild about the notch-back look. Has anyone who normally uses a 35" try it in 35"? How'd the balance and weight feel at that length?

Yes, standard lengths will be 35" and 38". They can be pre-ordered now and will ship appx. 1 Aug.

Can you expound on the hugging the ground point? Are you forward-pressing...or is that due to a low loft or the insert?

I have a collection of small mallets, so obviously I may have to throw another log on the fire!

I am sure it's a combination of the loft and insert or maybe the MOI because I don't use a forward press when I put. I'll try to test it on a sam and get some hard data, but to my eye it seems to start roling quickly. If you like small mallets test one out and give it a try.

Just out of curiousity, are you able to switch the grip on this to a superstroke? Will that effect anything on the putter since it is a counterbalanced putter?

Tried a buddies Blade 35" today, I think the model # was 32? Anyway, he just got it, he really wanted the Spider but putted well with this one on the carpet so left with it. He was short with it all day, not sure if a trait of the putter/counterbalance setup, I tried it for a few holes and was also short with it for the most part. We both normally play SC's, Studio Style (insert) for me, Fastback (no insert) for him. Anyway, he wasn't to thrilled with it, pretty sure he is sending it back...

I am not totally sure about that. I would guess it would make the head feel heavier.

The putter is completly face balanced so I would assume people who try to have a SBST stroke would like it.
Personally I put on an ark or inside and down the line.
Demo one and let me know what you think.

I'm pretty excited to try this putter, I just wish it wasn't solely offered as a counter balanced putter. I want to try the 35" version and see how it feels when you use it like a "normal" putter. I do love the head shape and I think TM has the best pure roll insert.

I think my putter purchase will come down to one of these and a Futura X Scotty.

Tried this today and was very impressed. I'm trying to move away from a belly putter for obvious reasons and this might be my answer. The putter had great balance and stability and felt great off the face. It's going to be a tough transition for me but I think this will be my weapon of choice for next season.

Saw one in the "flesh" so to speak for the first time today. Personally I prefer the mallet design to the blade, the only thing putting me off at the moment is the price £150 over here. However, the inner ho in me is trying to surface, must. resist. spending. more. money.......

I've been hunting for a replacement to my Nike MC 4i (33") which has been great especially on short to mid length putts but long putts have been a bit of a challenge. I have tried every Nike, Ping, TM, and Odyssey I could get my hands on over the past two weeks. Tried the Spider Mallet (35") today at Golf Smith and I was pleasantly suprised and is now on the top of my list. The roll is as advertised, the counter balance felt nice, and the accuracy was outstanding which is what counts. To pick a putter up and have it feel and perform that good on the first go and every other after is absolutely confidence building. The insert is only thing that will take some getting used to as I am not used to the softer feel. This is not a bad thing, just differnt but the performance doesn't lie. I will try the Nike Method Mod 0 and 60 before deciding. My ranking of putters thus far goes:

1. TM Spider Mallett
2. NIke Method Core 01w (very close second)
3. Nike Method Core 04w
4. Odyssey Versa Two Ball and Ping Scottsdale TR Mallet

+1 counter balancing really has it's advantages. I have been tweaking with my GoLo S to get the length and clevis pin size right. I almost have it dialed in.
