I've played 644 different courses. The 600th was played back in mid-February. I should be able to reach 650 this year.

Dang, you must record every round.  Do you record your round on spreadsheet and/or collect souvenirs?  I collect metal ball markers.   

I wonder how often you ever go back to the same place.   Like you, I love to venture new places.  Probably, I have gone to around 100 different courses.

I wrote a program to track my stats, so the courses I've played are managed in it. Last week I played my 200th local course in Chicagoland, so 444 have been played on the road. I have a handful of "home" courses that I play regularly (twice a month), but the majority of my rounds are "away" rounds. I've been averaging 65 new courses played for the past several years. My 400th (Pebble Beach) was in July 2017, and the 500th (St Andrews Old Course) was in April 2019. I retired last November and spent the winter in Arizona, so I played ~85 new courses from November '19 though February '20.

 

There are a handful of national courses that I've played more than once (e.g. Streamsong Blue and Red, Erin Hills, Southern Dunes in AZ), but I generally try to play new courses when I travel. I've played over half the top 100 public courses in the country. 'Still plenty more to visit, though.

I love GCOH and definitely agree it’s more of a challenge, but I played Memorial Park a couple of weeks ago and the rough was NASTY. They are really stretching it out, almost all of the holes will be pushed back to tee boxes they’ve been reserving just for the Open. They converted the 1st into a long par 4. The greens are the course’s true defense though, I could see some really tough pin positions come Saturday and Sunday. Exciting to see how everything plays out - I live 2 minutes from MP but didn’t want to pay the $110 or whatever for tickets...next year for sure.

My golfing bucket list includes a trip to the USA to spend some time playing these desert style courses. Just think it's a great visual to see an ocean of brown and these glorious patches of green.

then come to LA/San Diego/Palm Springs area.  you get to have ocean, desert, hilly, flat or anything in between in one single area.

My wife is from SoCal (Riverside) so played a couple around there. Something about the desert golf of Arizona, New Mexico etc really seems to appeal.

Was on vacation in Hilton Head a couple weeks ago, among many courses, Played the Fazio course at Palmetto Dunes (Top 50 courses in the US - 1977) 

(Anyone know the optimum size/settings for this forum to upload? These got compressed for some reason).
