Does anyone still game ping s58's?

i am looking to try out some S series irons. would these be a good choice? From reading it seems like the 57's might spin a bit more causing a loss of distance for many. The s56 corrected many of those issues. How are the 58's in comparison to the 57's and 56's? I am guessing the grooves were more similar to the 57s. Anyway was looking to try out the series while waiting on the s55's. 58's and 57's are going for pretty good deals on ebay. 56's are still the latest model, so resale value is still pretty high. have played i5's for a good while, and ready to test out some s55's and i25's in the next few months, hopefully. Thx

I'm back a generation or two and still using Ping I3+ Blades. And they preform as good as any of the other switch-outs I use periodically in the bag. Of the PING S series I like the S-56 and have waited for a deal which I hope to find this winter. You may want to look at the Ping site and compare the specs between the S56, S57, S58. There is a bit of difference between those three models.

thanks for the reply. i did check out the specs on ping.com, and they are all technically pretty similar. from reading around in forum searches, it appears that many felt the 57's were a tad harsh and maybe clicky, lacked some forgiveness comparatively, and lost some distance from too much spin. And then the 56's addressed most of the issues and were softer feeling, a little more forgiving, and about a half a club longer. So i think the general consensus is that the 56 was a better set then the 57s. But were the 57s an improvement to the 58s, or was the 58 a better club. I know many feel (myself included) the the i5 was a better product than their next two i series, so newer i guess doesnt always mean better.

Finally found a S58 lefty set in my specs a couple weeks ago. I have had Eye2's, Zing 2's, ISI Nickel, I3 O-size, I3+ Blades, and I5's
The S58 with ZZ65 for me is the best of all. I realized that big sole and big offset irons were not helping me. The 58's are launching the ball with a perfect trajectory, and very good distance. They are easier to hit than you think. My second best is the i5's with ZZ65's, but the feel is more clicky than S58.

The most overlooked set of irons ping ever made, imho of course.Simply a great set, wish I still had mine...they look good, are durable, and more forgiving than they look. Some other companies iron designs have copied these such as ap1/2, rbladez tour etc.

Callaway epic 9.0
Cobra bio cell 3/4
Ping G 19 degree hybrid
Ping ie1 4-AW modus 105
Callaway MD3 54/58 wedges

The S58's are the best iron I have ever played. I sold my first set (regretted every minute of it), got a 2nd set and played them until my bag was stolen. At that point you could not order them anymore. Searched for almost a year until I found a lefty set in good shape, with my specs about a month ago. On my 3rd set and will play them until they break. I have hit each model of the S series. In my opinion, the 58's are the best of the bunch. Very easy to hit and feel great. The best players iron ever accidentally created.

well i ended up winning a set of s56's after i made the original post. Wasnt expecting to win them at the price i bid. with the overwhelming favorable reviews of the s56's i think i should be getting a good representation of the the S line. thanks for the comments on the 58's, i was gonna go with them over the 57's had i not been able to grab a set of 56s.

Playing them for the 5th year. I would continue to do so if it wasn't for the groove rule going into effect next year for amateur tournaments. I'll most likely end up bagging S56s or their successor next, because I've loved my 58s since I got them.

Just took another look at the S Series and here are my comments. The S59 looks like it's got a little hockey puck peaking our of the back of the head. For this reason it was never a pretty club. But they had a tad less bounce then subsequent S models. I still like prefer the look of the S56 first; then the S57 is a close second; and the S58 isn"t too shabby either, but it is third to my eye. The S59 comes in forth for me.

Raising this one from the dead :taunt: . Took these out for nostalgia sake and have been hitting them well, better than my I20 irons. How in the world am I hitting the S58's better than the I20's, smh. Anyone else still playing these or at least holding on to them as a fall back set?

S58's are the irons that brought me back to Ping after several years of Mizuno irons. One of the best player looking irons with as much forgiveness as you'll find. To this day I have never hit a 4 iron better. I actually fell into these in a panic for "temporary set". I had sold a set of MP 32's to a buddy out of state and had another set on order. He needed them for a trip, so I bought a used set of S58's when my Mizunos were delayed. Ended up playing them for 3 years until they were stolen out of the trunk of my convertible (strange how many sets on this thread have been stolen). I was going to buy another set and ended up getting the S57's. The newer model is better, right? Nope. Not for me. I got rid of those and bought 56's, then 55's. Liked both, 55's a bit more, but kept and played both for a few years and just recently went to iBlades (with iE as backup). I am really enjoying the iBlades-accurate, forgiving and I hit them better than the iE's. I still have contemplated getting another set of S58's, and have watched several sets on eBay. I agree that they are some of the best irons made. Utilitarian looking, but extremely functional, accurate and durable.
