Mizuno JPX EZ Driver - will you demo it?

BigPete

Recommended Posts

So Mizuno have finally buckled and gone down the adjustable hosel route with the upcoming release of the JPX EZ.

Some of you will have owned Mizuno drivers in the past, but others will have dismissed their woods as "not as good as their irons".

Could this be the driver to pique your interest? Judjung by these photos it will be in the same ballpark as the Ping G25 - matte black crown - large footprint - simple adjustment. Perhaps the lack of demos or the comparitively limited shaft options might put you off. I'm just interested in what peoples' impressions of the driver / woods are so far....

Personally I can't wait to give this thing a go.

The long sticks look way better than the iron offerings.

(face/palm)

Yeah, I will give them a go. Curious about what the stock shaft will be and how easy the adaptors will be to pick up. I don't give a darn about whether it "adjusts" or not, but would want to try my own stable of shafts in it.

Actually got lucky and had a chance to hit it. Was in the right place at the right time. Only hit a couple balls with it but head felt good, didn't care for the shaft. I'm actually still hitting a Mizuno driver. After some swing changes, pulled out my old MX500 (circa 2005) with NV75X and hit it as well as anything I've hit recently. Got a great deal on a Motore Speeder 7.2TS X, dropped it in and it is my current gamer, very accurate! Looking forward to hitting this again but the feel of the MX500 (last Mizzy driver with Carbon Fiber Crown) is so good, not sure if anything can put it out of the bag...

I'm guessing the stock Orochi "black eye" is a very light "get it in the air" type shaft right?

Yea, it was really weak and light for my swing, but the feel off of the face was nice and it seemed pretty hot. Matte black crown was nice but I'm not a fan of alignment aids. Fairway and hybrid are deeper faced than last years JPX models and the hybrid I saw was different than the one Dee posted on Mizuno Europe.

It kind of looks like a combo of the 825 with the sole of the MX700. That said, I'll beat that thing like it owes me money!

I've had luck with Mizzy woods recently. JPX 800 driver, 5 wood and 650 driver are great. That 5 wood is absurdly good and the 650 is a newer j33. The 825 driver is silly easy to hit as well. For those that think their woods are not up to other OEM... just try one (with a shaft you like). Chances are you will be pleasantly surprised.

I would love to hit it, but I have never really found Mizuno woods readily available anywhere around me to demo. In fact, I can honestly count on one hand how many Mizuno woods I have seen people using. Maybe it's just the places I go. It's unfortunate, I will never dismiss any club because of the brand name stamped on it. I will, however, never consider a club that I can't hit a little before buying.

Warning! Biased viewpoint about to be posted.......

Huge fan of Mizuno. Unlike the majority of manufacturers, Mizuno is a Golf Club Company while the others (Ping excluded) are marketing companies that sell golf clubs.....

Their drivers, fairways and hybrids continue to be under-rated. The MP 630 Fast Track is the best so far (IMO). Still using the F50 fairway woods. MP Ti fways were superb too. Sadly, Mizuno USA did not release a 4 wood in USA (they did in Europe). If so, that would be in my kit.

One thing to keep in mind re Mizuno drivers, fways and hybrids - they only make sufficient for about one year's worth of distribution. They don't flood the market with never-ending price-drop stock.

umm yeah, i'll hit pretty much anything that's sitting on the rack......I spent some time hitting a few used drivers at the local golf shop the other day...included in that mix was a mp 600 fast track. Felt a little heavy compared to newer offerings, but it absolutely pounded the ball, right down the gut, low spin bomber that felt great too....Unfortunately the 9.5 head was a little low for me, it would be a perfect wind driver for me but day to day I needed a few degrees more launch...

Sorry, not gonna try it. No chance whatsoever.

I already own a Mizzy MP 650 driver. It's in the bag. The next driver I purchase will be a back up MP-650.

I'll try it, I think it looks nice and Mizuno drivers are underrated. But...I hate the name. "EZ" just sounds cheesy and I think it's likely going to hurt sales some. Wouldn't stop me from buying it but I still don't like it.

I am really excited about this driver, and honestly some of that is for superficial reasons. I LOVE Ping's matte black look and the Mizuno Runbird as the alignment aid is pretty cool too. Should look great from address.

I'm not too big on adjustability as I just want a dead square face, but the weight port might be nice to adjust the SW if that's indeed the purpose.

Absolutely, I'll be giving it a go to see what it's like

However any more then that is going to depend on
A: Can you get the adapters
B: Expanded shaft offering at reasonable prices
C: If the adjustability is meaningful ala TM or it it's just a small tweak ala Ping
[/quote]
A: Yes there will be adapters.
B: At this time not a lot of shaft offerings
C: loft can be charged 1.5 deg each way and there will be a std loft 2 up option.
The EZ wood line is geared at the player that needs forgiveness and more spin than a lot of the more recent introductions from other manufactures.

Cheers!

Aside from the more spin thing, sounds great. Though given who this is geared for, that's probably a much better idea.

The next question is if they're going to apply their adjustable hosel to the next MP and/or JPX model that they release?

As an aside, I'm starting to think that Mizzie is following in Ping's footsteps in terms of offerings. Not that it's a bad thing at all. It clearly worked for them.
JPX EZ = K Series
JPX = G Series

Had a Mizuno MX700 driver. The thing was a beast---long and straight. Never should have gotten rid of it.

Amen brother! What a great understated driver.
However just bought a Nike Covert and it is longer and straighter then anything I have put my hands on.
