Optiforce 440 Expectations Relative to RFX

Recommended Posts

So couldn't help myself, snagged an Optiforce 440 with a real B-series MRC 60 stiff. Current gamer is 10.5 RFX with Blueboard 73 (or VTS Silver 7s) that I really hit well.

Heard a lot of things about B series shafts playing firmer than weight (which would work as prefer tad heavier shafts) and Optiforce ball speed, etc.

For those who've hit both, or tried them, or similar setup, what should I expect out of the OptiForce?

It should be here Friday, so just dreamin' at this point.

Thanks

Thanks, Lobber.

Arrived today, it's sweet looking, reminds me a bit of FT3 Tour head, same size as RFX, but appears slight more compact.

Swung a few times, feels well balanced. I can't wait until Sunday AM to compare, unless I can sneak out Saturday too.

I'll let you know after couple of rounds, but looks and feels promising. B series shaft finish is gorgeous as well.

Optiforce is definately a higher spin head han the RFE....RFE with Black Tie is going to give you a much lower launch and spin as well. It's too bad the adapters don' t interchage, cause a Black Tie in the Optiforce would probably be a monster.

I have a local Cally Proponent dealer, so I'll get some adapters as I have a bunch of different shafts for my RFX and RF TA....

In my RFX, I currently swap between BlueBoard 73 and VTS Silver 7s.....looking forward to testing out this weekend, the B-series it came with feels nice just swinging outside, haven't hit any balls yet.

Choosing the 440 with the right shaft in my case the S+ 62 was much better on the LM for me vs the RFX because I got lower launch and higher spin. My normal #'s are 17.5 LA 2100 spin. I got the LA fine but spin was lower. With the 440/S+ I was 14.5 LA and 2900 spin. So I would like the try the S+ in the RFX head and see what I can get with that one. If I could get the RFX in the 2300-2400 spin range I would be elated! I tested the 8.5* closed to 9* I got 15.9 LA and 1600-1700 spin with 7M3 so I got the LA right but not enough spin. I hated the Trinity shaft.

I wish i could try both heads with the Kai'li 70S !

The FT Optiforce will not be discontinued, Callaway simply did not think the driver was going to be as popular as it has become & didn't have enough product. Back to the OP, I hit the RFX for a while & have been hitting the Optiforce 440 for almost 2 months now & I LOVE IT! Has the qualities of my 2 favorite Callaway drivers, the launch/distance of my FT 5 TH (Tour Hosel) & the look/ball speed of my FT 9 TA so what more could I ask for. I didn't keep it light weight as the FT Optiforce series drivers are intended to be, I asked Callaway to hot melted my Optiforce 440 head to 203g & went with a TourZ Platinum CB/85/M5 shaft which is about 88g, has a D4 with the total club weight of 339g. It was built to the same specs of my FT 5 TH driver that I just can't miss with & my RFX/XHP to the same specs as well. I gained 5/7mph ball speed & gained about 9-13 yards of carry over both the RFX/XHP.

The FT Optiforce driver has been the #1 Callaway model on the PGA Tour & 12 of 14 European Tour Callaway staffers are playing this driver since its release. Furyk used it to a 2nd place finish in the PGA & Patrick Reed got the FT Optiforce it's first win last week after only being out for 6/7 weeks. It's been said Patrick has gained 13 yards with his Optiforce driver & other Callaway staffers have seen as much as 20 yards of added distance. So I've read but we all know Callaway & TM can embellish these numbers as well as we don't know exactly how they come about these numbers. Either way IMO I think it's the best Callaway driver they came out with this year & the proof is in the pudding with most of Callaway tour staff switching over to the Optiforce 440. I've also noticed a few guys playing the Optiforce 460 model in the WRX tournament pic galleries, it's hard to not notice the red trim. All in all Callaway has produced some great drivers in 2013 to put them back on the map, having played all of them for me/IMO the FT Optiforce is the best.

Great stuff. I'm debating giving this club a chance but afraid of making another stock mistake. Would love to get your input if you have any knowledge of the stock options. Started this year trying to replace an FT Tour with NVS shaft that I loved. FYI I'm a 5HC with avg swing speed (100-103mph). Used to hit a good drive about 265 ish. Now struggling to hit it 250. I struggle to hit the ball high enough to take advantage of my even my best strikes. Low low ball flight.

Started with RF and RIPd NV-- HATED it.
Replaced with RFE w/ Trinity and while much better is still not performing as good as I need to. Still struggle consistency wise on getting a good ball flight though occasionally I do. Have been considering swapping the Trinity shaft with an Ilima 60 (just don't want to shell out $250+ for a white tie or Kusala as a test)

How would the 440 Optiforce compare for me? And which of their stock shafts would be best? The Diamana Blue is what I assumed, just don't think that super light 43g Project X would be good. Or should I avoid both stocks in favor of an Ilima (or other high launch shaft)?

Appreciate any input...

For me the 440 was the lower spinning head vs xhot and RFE, it launches a little higher but it just goes! Btw I'm hitting the stock PX shaft and love it. My ball speed is up about 8 mph and closing in on 160 mph

Initial impression is Holy S**t this thing is unreal...all I can say is WOW.

Got 36 in today, well 2 balls a hole. Quick summary, as I'm playing tomorrow, so we'll see if honeymoon continues...great feel, ball speed is noticeably faster than my RFX, some could be the B series (which is my next HO adventure, as it's way smoother than Kaili) but for example, hit two tee shots, within 1 yard of each other, I'll have to upload pic from my phone, 287 out, neither really killed, but decent passes.

Update after tomorrow, we'll get at least 27 in. So far, best driver I've hit, longer than FT3 Tour or RFX.

Optiforce 440 launches higher, carries further and is longer than RFE in my hands. Feel, although subjective, appears better to me. Not a fair comparison as the OF has Diamana stock shaft and the RFE has Matrix HD Black Tie. I think you will love it

So got another 27 in today, all we could take as it's pretty hot today. I don't think 13 is out of reach of mere mortals, and with 120 +/- SS, 20 could be.I hit point and shoot bullets with this thing. Silly long, great feel for contact and forgiving enough...thinking might have hot melted add a few grams for swing weight as my RFX is about D5, at least D4 as never really measured but it's 45.5 with original Blue 73 S. Even misses are not punished distance or directionally. Definitely on the few I hit well, this is for me about 15 to 25 or so as I play same courses a lot and know them."Works for me" is all I'm saying.

I should post this on the 'what I deal I found' thread. It's an MRC 3rd gen B series, 60S. Someone must have bought this, looking at selling history appears to be a total Ho, was too much club or something, as was set to 11.5 Draw when I got it, must have hit it about 6-10 times and didn't like it. With the Iomic grip I had put on, was well under stock shaft retail and in perfect condition.I think I hit Trinity in simulator about 5 times, didn't like it at all, so can't say. If purchasing retail, I'd go at some weight of Diamana S+, thought regardless of weight I just don't get along well with PX.

The 440 is pretty neutral bias, whereas the RFX was a bit draw bias unless you move the settings to open.

So, there may be initial shot shape issues.
Unless it's my fault, this thing is point and shoot cannon for me.My RFX woods all have Dual Cog and are set to S+ on Driver to O- on fairway woods. I have weights in RFX set neutral using 6/6.Has to be party shaft, as it's smoother and longer than Kaili, with a nice subtle kick, I'm thinking of HOing 2 more for my fairway woods, but that's be a lot of cheese. So far, it's awesome.

If you end up hot melting let me know. I happen to have another one of those that I kept because I was intrigued. Back to the D3 with the B60. Not as long but allways in the fairway!

Optiforce 440 launches higher, carries further and is longer than RFE in my hands. Feel, although subjective, appears better to me. Not a fair comparison as the OF has Diamana stock shaft and the RFE has Matrix HD Black Tie. I think you will love it
What shaft do you have in the Optiforce? Does anyone know how the two stock shaft options compare to the Aldila Trinity that came in the RFE?
OK, I couldnt resist. A club HO - agree, only hit a few times - agree, didnt like it - just a little too light in the head, Perfect condition- I will take that as a compliment, shaft - Love it! Gald you are enjoying it!

I haven't had too much trouble, yet (only played 63 holes thus far with it), finding fairways, unless make an awful swing....it's is long and that B60 shaft is the bomb....thinking I want for fairway woods.....I'll check on hotmelt this weekend, have a 'famous' fitter or two I use here in Dallas.....keep you posted.

Have you hit, RFX? It's a beast too, heavier and adjustable swingweight, mine is like D5.

Can anyone tell me what the head weights are for the:

1. RAZR Fit Xtreme (does the weight include the 1- and 13-gm standard weight set)?
2. Optiforce 440?
(3. X2 hot pro?)

If you provide a weight, can you let me know if that is with/without the shaft adapter as well? I can't find this info except I saw something about the Optiforce weighing 203-ish grams in another post?
What makes the Optiforce so light?...have they reduced the head weighting?

Thanks for any responses.

Kind of funny, but I was looking to try a few iterations of a 'small driver head' and picked up a new Optiforce 440 (notice the last post was 2 years ago, lol). However, I noticed it was initially put out as a 'lighter' head that supposedly can swing it faster, but everytime I get something like that (light stuff), I keep adding weight until 'it feels right' to my swing....so I lead taped the bottom, together with the 58-gm Project X pvi (?), it feels so smooth, I love it. I might not even bother with the TM slider 430. It has not displaced the TaylorMade Aeroburner mini-driver in my bag as my driver. I love the noise it makes, kind of like a ratchet wrench type of noise.
