Tom Kite. It was recent though...obviously a shadow of his former self. Can still crank the ball. Tiny dude...massive forearms.

Played a few rounds with Frank Licliter as well. One of the years he was top 50 I believe.

I've played with several guys at my course that have either played on mini tours or the Nationwide tour. One of the guys that played the Nationwide tour holds the course record at 59 (par 71). This same guy shot 61 in a state open qualifier at my course. Another one played at the Greenbrier Classic recently as a Monday qualifier. Another shot 63 the second time he played the course - I shot 73 and it felt like 100 playing with this guy. I'm not a short knocker by any means (average 270), but these guys are constantly 40-50 yards ahead of me. It can be depressing sometimes.

I play rounds from time to time with these guys and it just amazes me how good they are.

This season, I played with a twosome that drove to the first tee box and ran into the signpost. They were wasted already, and it was only 8:15 AM. First guy stumbles up to the tee, a 520yd par5, and hits a 3 iron about 250 down the middle. 2nd bozo clocks his driver 280ish down the right side. This is 8:15 in the morning!!!! They have their cart loaded up with Bud tallboys. They must have drunk close to a case - each! Barely able to stand upright, but once the swing started, absolutely flushed every shot.
One shot a 70 and the other a 73. :shok:

Never seen them ever again!

I lived in Hawaii in the late 90's. A friend and I did a great deal of betting with people that would come to town on vacation thinking they were the real deal. We did very well together as a team and could pick out the guys that would bet a healthy amount of cash. My partner was an amazing player that could have played the tour if the bottle hadn't been his handicap. For one reason or another, the resort courses were full for the day. We headed to a local muni to just play and got hooked up with a local man in his late 50's. His old leather bag was falling apart; his old wooden woods were beaten to death and had no head covers. He was dressed as if he just came from the factory after a long day at work. We should have seen him coming a mile away but we didn't. His drives were ugly but found every fairway. He would lay up on the long par 4's and par 5's and pulled out his sand wedge. Every time he hit a SW into the green it would end 2 feet from the hole. Just take the par 5's and he is -4. There were 4 long par 4's and he was even. 4 par 3's and 2 of them were short so he was -2 on the par 3's. The rest of the par 4's were mid to small and had his name all over them going -3. He ended his round at -9 and collected everything we had in our pocket and even had to make a trip to the bank while he enjoyed a hotdog after the round. His play was not the best part of his game, it was his hustle. He left us wondering if he had the round of his life or did this everyday. It was the things he said while he was playing and after a great shot that made us think he was having the round of his life. It was the way he collect the cash without emotion that made us think he was a pro. I have played with a few major winners and still believe that this guy was the best scoring player I have ever seen. I learned a great deal from him once I got over the hustle part and still think of him often. No matter how good you think you are, there is always someone better.

I played with a recent UNLV grad who claimed to be a better than scratch golfer and had played Tiger in a college match (and lost). We were paired together randomly and at the time I would typically shoot in the low 90's. He was a nice kid and give me a couple of short game tips that helped me out, but I would not want to play someone of that caliber on a regular basis. The entire round was focused on his birdie attempts which made my game insignificant. I learned some but had less of a good time than I normally do. I would rather watch Phil or Tiger or take an individual lesson with a high caliber trainer than play a round with someone who plays in a different world than I do.

I've played with a guy who has played on mini tours and the US Am. Big driver, seriously big. I hit the ball pretty hard, but I wouldn't be surprised if this guy carried the ball 330. He's a club pro now so far removed from his serious playing days, but he could still rip that driver. Most impressive was his short game, though. If he missed the green he'd chip to within a 4 foot radius and make the putt. Great player and fun to watch.

There was a thread on this not too long ago

I guess I'd have to say - if a simulator at a tradeshow counts - I played the first 3 holes of Pebble Beach with Johnny Miller. F me does he pure it

Outside of that I'd say Brendan Steele. Played two rounds with him in a Nationwide event in 2007.

My instructor played the Euro tour for years, Danny Mijovic. Played in three British Opens. Still dead solid. Won the Canadian Seniors last year

I play a lot with three local mid am guys. Two are off +3 and one is a +5. I've seen some dirty low scores

Wow! How many did he miss INSIDE 15 feet though? If I were him, I'd be teeing off with my putter!

played with a 63 year old +2 handicap in whistler last year. Was -2 through 17 very difficult holes he had never played before, just hit it straight every time and drained everything. I will never forget the flight of his golf ball, so straight and compressed, I was probably a club longer than he was but his flight was completely different!

I have played with 2 guys that were significantly better than scratch, the first is a VP for our company in Calgary who I am friends with who plays twice a week and is +3.

Once in Phoenix, my wife and I hooked up with these two guys a big Korean guy who had played the mini-tours and this Australian guy in America to try and get his tour card. The aussie doubled the first hole, we both picked the wrong line with the driver and unknowingly hit it OB, I was playing whites and they were on the tips so out balls tended to end up in similar places off the tees. This guy shot 66 with a couble to start, every shot a 5 yard draw, totally repeatable trajectory, amazing putter. We got to this par four and he had a yardage book from a tournament that had been there and told me about this ledge on the green, we were right beside each other in the fairway and he told me to hit it between 136 and 139 or I would be in trouble. Much to my surprise I hit is 137 in the air and acted like I knew how to do that regularly, he absolutely knew how to hit a ball 137.

Easily the most efficient player I've ever seen before.

This past weekend.

30 year scratch golfer just took me and my friend to task (and we were playing captains choice!!!!).

Dude was 30 years older than either of us and hit his 3 iron longer than I hit my 3 wood.

At the end of the round I looked at his clubs out of curiosity and saw that he was using some old McGreggor irons.

Burn... just let it buuuuuuuuuuuuurn!

Not the best overall, but certainly the most interesting: several years ago we paired up with a guy who was 85 years old. This guy somehow could still drive the ball 270 yards down the middle. Impressive. For 85 he had the swing of a 45 year old.

A bit humbling but just bizarre when you're 25 and being out driven by someone 60 years older. Only was with him for 6 holes, all of which he was level par.
