@ prhiam -You can't go wrong with Mizuno, that MP4/64 combo is going to be tough to beat by anyone.. BUT if it were me, any OEM that could match/beat it would be Nike for sure. Not sure what went wrong with my Covert, it was unusually high launching and spinning compared to the one I hit at the Oven. Not even close to the same clubs.

Interesting Tai, I am still trying to figure out why I saw huge gains with the Covert Tour in my first test. Launch and spin were really good but when I tried tests 2 and 3 numbers were almost identical to my 9064, Best I ended up seeing was +2 mph ball speed with the Cally RFXE and white PX shaft not enough to justify a new driver. Nike was +1 mph same trajectory and near identical spin. I am curious to see what the numbers would look like with the Oban Devotion in the CT head but not enough to justify spending 175 to get on a Trackman outdoors.

I think my case is simple.. the driver head I used during the fitting was better suited for me than the one I actually got.. The Cover Tour was easily higher in ball speed and lower in spin for me at the Oven, it just didn't translate with the head I got.

Next gen drivers arrive at The Oven. Next up:#testmode for the Tour.

1276345_10151894588428258_1258368144_o.jpg

I was really hoping the new coverts would all be black (like the covert tour) but from this picture I can see silver faces so it looks like the performance model still isn't going to be black like the tour model... Oh well, it's just aesthetics, if it works I'll get over it. It's interesting that the cavities are different colors though, white in the tour vs. black in the performance (on the USGA site anyways). Did anyone get confirmation that these will be out in 2013 or is this a spring 2014 release?

I did a little head to head comparison with the Covert Tour and my trusty Superdeep. Both shafted with Speeder 7.2 Tour Spec shafts, equal tipping, grips, etc.

The Covert only beat the Deep on pure flushed hits. On average, the Superdeep was hanging.

If Nike wants to get this right, they need a much deeper face. Going back to the Superdeep made me realize how shallow even the Tour head is in the Covert line

Interesting you say that. When I demoed the CT indoors at the beginning of the year it had the highest ball speed and lowest spin of any driver I hit that day. When I picked another one up over the summer it launched fairly high and was visibly spinning a lot, even with my 6.2 TS in it. Can't really explain it, if I had the same head I demoed in March I think it would be a different story. Maybe QC issues?

If any of you followed my covert shaft thread in the club making forum you might have noticed I started spinning my CT head. Started searching for a spin killing shaft.

I thought it was because my injury was making me hang back in my swing but now I wonder if these heads start to spin after they are broken in?

I also want deeper faced woods (both fairway and driver) but I wonder how much that would knock down spin. In a lot of simulators it looked like covert barely spun.

I'll guarantee you between RT Zeus X, Diamana Whiteboard 83-X, Speeder Tour Spec 7.2 X, and Project X-8A4, I've covered a fair amount of the realm of low spin shafts.

The Covert has some pop when you hit one dead on the nuts. The issue is making that happen. Speed and flight on mishits is concerning, especially compared to relatively older driver technology. The consistency of my Superdeep was giving me an average distance as good as the Covert with more consistent shots down the middle.

I really want to make this driver work, which usually means it's not going to make it. It's just not deep enough and it's forgiveness might actually be worse than the Superdeep, which many have lauded as one of the least forgiving drivers in many years.

The one thing you all have in common is that you are having issues with the Covert Tour.

I wanted to like the CT as well, but found it to be very unforgiving. If you don't hit it high on the face, it spins.

Once I found the right combo in the Performance model, I was just as long as the CT but also the most consistent driver I have ever played

True. Which is why the tour guys were split between CT and CP. I ended up with performance and a lower spinning shaft. Perfect combo. Yeah the peak wasn't the longest, but the consistency and distance is awesome.

Your results are interesting. My experiences were different but just reminds you how different it gets from person to person. My mishits with my tour head are typically longer than my solid hits on the performance head, same shaft being tour spec 6.3. The spin was killing me on the performance head (4000) and even on mishits with the tour, my spin is around 3000. Gained 15 yards consistently and up to 25 when I switched.

I guess the LE glued version is just a pipe dream at this point unfortunately.
[/quote]

Well, maybe...

Here is my prediction for spring Metalwoods line...

Covert 2.0 Performance (460 cc)
Covert 2.0 Tour (440-460CC, but deeper and lower spinning than Performance)
Covert Limited (430CC ).

Flexloft on all. Maybe a limited glued version to be available around May...

Plus, each line to have matching fairways

It is just a guess....

Got 4 shafts to try with the Covert Performance model. The Kuro Kage 50gr shaft was better than both Alidila (phenom (50) and RIP (60)). But when I got the ADDI 60 in it... Well it blew me away! I was MUCH more consistent in both distance and flight!
I may have lost a couple of yards, compared to the Kuro, but then again, my 3 wood was longer than the Phenom...
The only problem with the ADDI is that I got it at the last weekend of playing. Since I live in the northern part of Norway we have to close our courses this weekend... :angry22::angry22::angry22:

Does anyone know if they have removed the COVERT as the alignment aid on the performance and tour. I dont mind the red or the swoosh, but the lettering as the alignment aid is horrible imo.

Pretty sure I read it's gone at least in the Tour head.
