CLEVELAND GOLF SMART SQUARE PUTTER

I've got one of these. I seem to put a little counterclockwise (hook) spin on the ball with mallet style putters, so have almost always used Anser style putters. But without doubt the Smart Square aims better for me. To use this mallet and not hook spin the ball, I moved the ball to the center of my stance (1 to 1.5" further away from target) and consciously try to keep the putter face square to target 1-2" past impact. By moving the ball further back in my stance my hands are more ahead of the ball at address, but this putter seems to have more loft than most, so hands ahead doesn't seem a problem.

It's a big adjustment. I've used Anser style putters for so long they feel better to me and I like the way they roll it. This mallet looks clunky and feels different at address and throughout the swing. Yet the promise of better aim is so alluring I'm practicing a lot with it and at this stage, think changing to this putter will pay off. It's on-course debut will be in two weeks.

(I've heard of some pros who have made a putter change overnight during a tournament so my careful change seems totally ridiculous, but I'm hopeful this is legit learning and part of the improvement process.)

I don't know if these are even available any more, but wanted to add my thoughts on this putter since I've played it for awhile now.

This will be season 2 of the smart square putter for me. I absolutely love it. I have the TFI version (copper face) and I really love the alignment the squares give. They weren't kidding when they say the double lines help with alignment and face angle, My putting improved immensely last year. I had a Ping ketsch that was ok, but I really like this one better. When I ordered mine the place I ordered them from sent me 2.. so I'm set for life lol

This off season I replaced every club in my bag for one reason or another.. except my smart square.

It may look a little goofy but it works for me.

I had the original smart square that was an almost belly putter at 38". I wish I still had it. It would have been a perfect candidate to lengthen to an armlock.
