Best caddie shoes?

Recommended Posts

Looking for best caddie shoes you actually used.

Sneakers don't do it. Blisters and not made for it.

Use golf shoes which are great and water proof but are heavy and have soft spikes which I don't need.

Heard there were golf shoes with no soft spikes that are light, water proofed, and are meant specifically for caddying.

Any ideas?

you could probably get away with the true linkswear proto's. I wear the sensei's and they are very light/comfortable, the protos are the water resistant version, and the "soft spikes" are spaced pretty far apart and I don't feel them when walking on a hard surface.

Another option would be some kind of a trail tennis shoes designed for wet weather running (merrill trail glove or the like).

A bad day on the course is better than
a good day at work!

How are good built running or crosstrainers not built for caddying? If you've received blisters from shoes caddying, you're just buying the wrong shoes.

I don't have an official count, but for every caddy on the PGA tour you name that wears a soft spiked shoe - I can name about 8-9 that don't.

I'd actually recommend the Nike Free Haven Shields. 100% waterproof cross-training shoe.

I bought a pair of running shoes fit perfectly at Nordstroms which as you know are not cheap before a major tournament to caddy. After caddying for a 3 day tournament and walking with a player 4 other days for practice rounds I had blisters on my feet. Maybe a "walking" shoe is designed for this but the "running / cross trainer" shoe I was sold is not. I also explained to the sales person why I was buying a new pair of shoes.

My golf shoes I can walk all over and they feel great and are water proof BUT they are very heavy and clunky and have soft spikes. I would be surprised a caddy would wear a soft spike shoe. No reason too.

I have seen other golf shoes that are spikeless and are water proof. Seems foolish to wear them playing if its wet without spikes but they seem like a good thing for caddying. They look more like a sneaker than a traditional golf shoe all leather and water proof.

I wouldnt go to Nordstroms to buy athletic shoes or expect them to have a knowledgable shoe salesperson for athletic purposes. What shoe did you buy from there that gave you blisters?

You might consider a pair of trail running shoes with GoreTex. Go with a brand that fit your feet the best and are tried and true. Seems like most caddies are wearing some sort of running shoe, might be wrong, but that's what I've seen. I have a pair of Saucony Xodus 3.0 GT's. Have not worn them when it's wet but they are super comfy, plenty of support and the traction on the soles work well. If traction is not an issue being a caddy, I would think a pair of regular running shoes and/or trainers w/ GoreTex would do the job just fine.

There are a ton of golf specific molded spike (most people refer to them as spikeless) options out there. I'm not sure how important the waterproofing is, but you'll need a shoe w/ some sort of liner in them to be for the most part completely waterproof.

You would expect Nordstroms to provide expertise on athletic shoes?! Try a running store where the guy should have you walk in them, determine what you need, then fit you into a proper shoe.

Can't remember where but, I read somewhere that caddies are required to wear "flat soled shoes" only.

Me too. Whatever Asics or New Balance trail-running-style shoe was on sale was what I wore until they either fell apart or smelled so bad I could not stand it any more. :-)

Don't get analysis paralysis, OP. Get shoes that fit and then bust as many loops as you can.

It depends on where you a re caddying, terrain, wet conditions, and color. I've been caddying for about 5 years now and am still searching for the perfect shoe. Any of the nike lunar running shoes are great. I've had the lunarswift h20 repels for a over a year and they are great ( 6months at Erin hills). You want to stay away from golf shoes, too heavy and the course doesn't need any extra spikes on the greens. We also fore caddy some so running in golf shoes is no good either. The true links fall apart in less than 3 months. They offer them to us for $38 a pair and nobody wants them after seeing other ruined ones.
We have to where white shoes in the winter so I use nike free trainer 7.0 and they stay dry and since it flat in Florida I don't need a lot of tread like I would on a hilly course. The tw 14 spikeless in white would be perfect if they weren't $180.

Find a fitness shoe boutique. We have on and they actually put you on a treadmill and use a high speed camera to see your gape and every thing in your step.

This.
Have caddied for 20 seasons now in the Mid-Atlantic where we get all types of weather. I've owned Gore-Tex shoes from Nike, Adidas, Vasque, North Face, and most recently Saucony. All did the job, I'll probably stick with the Saucony's for a while, since I wear their running shoes, too. They're light enough to stay comfortable even on days you have to do 36, and I don't even own a pair of snow boots for the winter, I just put on my rainpants with my Gore-Tex shoes and I've no worries!

True, unless you need more support/cushioning. At that point I'd move toward a goretex trail running shoe (Merrill, North Face, etc).
