KINGMADE JERKY Review

Recommended Posts

Beef jerky has always been my favorite on course snack . Many times over the summer while on the course, I would substitute a healthy dinner for a pack of Costco jerky. I had no idea what I was putting in my body, nor did I have the faintest idea that high end beef jerky existed. Fast forward to approximately two months ago, I stumbled upon pictures of Kingmade jerky, a high quality beef jerky. To be honest, I was not intrigued at first, even jokingly commenting that I only eat “circle t beef jerky.” A full week later, I finally decided to thoroughly read through the entire thread. I found that the jerky was created by Jeff King, whose dream for creating the perfect beef jerky started while caddying on the PGA Tour and LPGA tour in 1998… a year after I was born! Jeff was horrified of the contents in current beef jerky offerings, and after looking into the nutrition content, I am unsatisfied with brands like Jack Link’s, Oh Boy Oberto, and other popular beef jerky companies  .While the taste is obviously a critical factor, I

encourage you to take a careful look at what benefits Kingmade jerky offers, as they prove why Kingmade is the best jerky an athlete can purchase. Let’s get to the review : :derisive:

Packaging: The first reason why Kingmade Jerky is a new favorite of mine is the packaging. How can you go wrong with a steer in a golf outfit? You cannot! I have had people come up to me (both at the course and away from it!), asking what the jerky is, and complimenting the packaging for being so unique. A friend of mine remarked that the packaging itself was high quality. The bags themselves are 2.25 ounces, which are about an ounce smaller than most other companies offer. Overall the packing is unique, simple, and classy.

:nyam: :nyam: Taste : Kingmade offers 3 flavors of jerky: Classic

Recipe, Sweet Chili Pepper, and Buffalo Style. My personal favorite was the

buffalo style, although I shared each of the 3 flavors with friends, and each one of us had a different favorite; therefore, we were not able to reach a mutual agreement. I encourage you to try all of the flavors before deciding which one you like best. I won’t delve deep into what the flavors taste like, they are pretty self explanatory, and what I taste may be different than what you will taste.

Consistency: Kingmade jerky is sliced into “strips”, perfect for digging out while walking down the fairway. This is a dry jerky with a non-sticky surface feel. Some smaller pieces are semi-moist. The slices are small enough that you can eat them whole and chewing overall is easy. A large problem I have had with the larger companies is that some pieces are literally impossible to chew. The chewing texture starts out tender, offering little resistance. It quickly chews down soft and takes on a meaty feel. Once chewed all the way down to a soft mass, it becomes similar to most jerky (consistency wise). Kingmade advertises that it is 97% fat free, and I found this to be 100% true. I found zero fat on the jerky I ate. A huge benefit for golfers eating this jerky is that this jerky leaves zero residue on your fingers, making it easy to swing a club freely. There have been countless times where I avoid eating a snack at the turn for fear of getting slippery hands; however, Kingmade has solved this problem and it is now my go-to snack while on the course.

Nutrition: This is the category where Kingmade blows the completion away. Kingmade Jerky uses only the most premier ingredients. Other gas station brands may be inexpensive, but they are comparable to “McDonalds”, contain terrible meat, and are loaded with sodium. Sodium will dehydrate you on the course, and having to lug around water on the course is a burden to you as well as your golf game. Kingmade is very low sodium; the Classic Flavor contains only 90 mg per serving! To put that in perspective, Jacks Links contains 770 mg PER SERVING! Upon closer inspection, one may notice that other brands’ jerky offer more protein and this is simply because those brands use protein enhancers (very bad) while Kingmade does not. Other Jerky companies offer 3 oz bags, and often times one third of that content is sugar! Kingmade hardly uses any sugar, just enough for it to taste good. When you purchase a 3 oz. bag of “the other stuff” you are essentially purchasing 2 ounces of meat, and 1 whole ounce of sugar. Overall, Kingmade does not cut corners and even your doctor would approve of you eating this jerky.

:dntknw: Snack Value: A 16 oz (one pound) bag

of this jerky runs $54. That is about $3.20 per ounce, which is rather high

compared to other companies; however, as with anything, you get what you pay

for, and you are paying for a snack that does not dehydrate you, fills you up,

and prevents you from having to worry about your club slipping from your hands.

I found that the bags were a bit too small. I wanted to eat more once the pack

was empty; however, since Kingmade offers one pound bags, this can easily be

solved.

Overall: Kingmade beef jerky is created for athletes who require a performance snack. It looks good, tastes incredible, and is very healthy for you. The cost may be rather difficult to justify for some; I encourage you to try all three flavors before deciding which one you prefer. Kingmade Jerky distances itself from the other beef jerky companies so consumers can enjoy the best jerky possible, proven by the 100+ tour players who already enjoy this product on the course.

Nice review MD. I've looked for it in my area, but haven't been able to find any.

I'm taking some to a local high end grocery store to hopefully get them to carry some. It's tough to find.

I wonder why? I've read/heard nothing but good things about it.

$52 a pound? No thanks.

I'll stick with my tried and true Big John's Beef Jerky which is also half as expensive.

They have made it into some 7-11 stores and a couple of local grocery stores in Texas (Dallas, I think). It is a slow process to get your stuff in the door and on the shelves.

They are still in the growing stages and the amount of volume some store chains require will be met as KingMade continues to grow.

Great review and I have to agree it's the best jerky on the market. New products take a while to get in stores but I'm sure you will be seeing it at your local club soon enough. It is already in pro shops like Pebble Beach, Redstone, Houston National. It is starting to make its way into grocery stores like central markets. 7-11's and other gas station chains are on board. It is selling out everywhere it goes. If you haven't tried it yet order a sample pack from their website.

Remind me of one of the things I enjoyed the most during my visit to Texas last spring... The variety of locally made, unheard of brand, very high quality jerky...also gave a drug-sniffing dog-in-training fits at the SA airport.

Something to be said, though about high quality products, and ones willingness to pay. I'm pay like $4+shipping to buy my ketchup from Portland, but the quality blows away all of the commercial stuff, even at 1/3 the cost.

Going to have to place an order to try this jerky now though. Just have not heard a single bad thing about it, other than price.

just received the packages today. i got the combo pack with sweet chili, buffalo and regular.

i have to tell the truth here, i cant see how you were raving about it OP. the jerky is tasteless and super dry to the point of coming apart. 1 out of 5 stars for fast shipping.

the buffalo has the most taste but is not very good at all. the sweet chili was the one i was looking forward to the most as i am a huge spicy food lover. it was neither spicy nor sweet. the regular was like eating cardboard.

needless to say, this jerky was a complete waste of money. im going to use the regular as dog treats and toss the rest.

OP, you must sell this stuff to have that high of regard for it. i literally cannot see how someone from the northwest doesn't know what good jerky taste and consistency should like.

I'm sure he doesn't sell the stuff and neither do I. Everyone has different tastes and opinions about what they like.

Suffice to say, the stuff is enjoyed by at least 50+ players and caddies on the PGA Tour (Tiger & Kuchar, included).

The stuff sounds great, but as a student I can make my own jerky for significantly less and the quality would be down to taste preferences. For those who can't be bothered (me in a few months) it seems like a good buy.

Nope, don't sell the stuff, but I am hoping it is carried by some stores around my area soon. As I mentioned in my review, the jerky being dry makes it a good golf snack, as your hands will not get slippery. It is dry and very chewable. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion but I think you may be the first person who has not enjoyed the jerky. Cheers :)
