Nope. I like TS how it comes
Would you opinion change if you were living up north and playing there all the time in the soft conditions?
No. TS actually has the most bounce. Just narrowest sole. Could use SS with more trail and trailing edge relief too.
If you had the SS what grind would you recommend to make it more versatile? half moon grind?

The V grind is basically the M grind with peak bounce more forward in the center of the club. More versatile imo especially when open
I've found the Cally MD2 tour grind to be great and also the Taylormade ATV grind for 58-62* wedges using these techniques.
Don't the atv's have a bit of a channel grind (very slight) to then though? Wouldn't that put the bounce too far back?
Imo yes.

Ping Glide TS and Callaway Mack Daddy 2 (tour or C) are best retail options imo
Regarding Callaway which would you recommend: the Mack Daddy 60/14 C grind or the Mack Daddy 60/9 Tour Grind? Thanks Dan.

Both are great. C grind a little more forgiving, especially in soft ground.

Hi Dan,

Not sure if you remember but I took an online lesson with you in late Feb. Anyway, I've fully converted to your teachings and bought the videos for the short game, I actually plan on taking another lesson next week as I've been working hard on what you told me from the first lesson (hands in). I've had TREMENDOUS success. As a matter of fact the second time out of the year I shot a 77 which is my second lowest score ever! Although the last round I developed a bit of the shanks where the ball would squirt low and right. It happened on almost every hole that I didnt hit the green. So I went into my backyard afterwards and shot after shot I kept hitting a shank. I know its probably a bit hard to tell what Im doing wrong without seeing video but are there any general reasons why this might be happening? Im using a 54* Vokey with 14 bounce.

Much appreciated Dan! I worked on this yesterday and started by hitting several shanks. After an hour I learned to stand a bit further away, always keep my thumbs pointing down and follow through to the target. I proceeded to hit 40-50 balls very nicely after doing that. Thank you again!

have to say im so confident now using my wedges for chips and pitches, this is after only a few weeks, I had got to the point where I would try and hit everything bump and run, now im full of confidence to use my 60 from anywhere and strike it pure and shallow.

thanks Dan

I'd half to look them up. Like I said trailing edge and heel. Essentially making it more of a TS
Hi Dan. Big fan and greatly appreciate all that you and Monte contribute and your efforts to make us better for zero compensation. That being said, I wish I had noticed this thread a couple of weeks ago as I just purchased three Glide wedges 50 SS, 54 SS and 58 WS. So far I really like them but went with the WS in the 58 thinking that it would be more forgiving and playable than the SS or TS. Is there any bending or grinding that you would recommend to improve the playability of the 58 or would I be better off just eating the loss and swapping it out for a TS?

Can you explain exactly what it is that makes the TS better for chipping and pitching opposed to the WS?

Thanks again.

Versatility. The Attas actually has considerably more bounce and is at a much steeper angle. Wide sole is fine on basic shots but more limiting on open faced shots. Big heel relief would allow it to be more playable while open.

A thinner soles higher bounce wedge gives you the same positives and margin of error that the wide sole does on square faced shots (increased bounce negates the thinner sole) while allowing it to be played extremely open off even the tightest lies. One is very good for specific shots. The other is versatile and good almost anywhere.

Just wanted to reccomend the maltby tour grind wedge to anyone that likes to build their own clubs. The sole grind is perfect and has made a dramatic difference on my short game. I'm loving the additional margin of error I'm getting with these wedges and my confidence is starting to come back. I hit a number of shots that would have been disasterous with my old wedge but came out nice high and soft. They're not quite as soft as my cg10 but are better imo than some of the other OEMs i've tried. There is a slight trade off out of the sand with the narrower sole but it's not really noticable unless you're super steep. As long as I keep my hand path in on the takeaway and than get them away from left hip on the follow through I'm golden.

Tried this method out on the course for the first time the other day after watching the video and couldnt believe the results. What really took me by surprise is how much spin it created. The only thing I kept messing up on was not keeping the club low enough on the follow through.

Heres a few videos from a practice session today. Hope I'm doing it right, comments are welcome

DTL - club working too inside, Dan talks about straight back and straight through, try to keep the shaft on the same circle it is at address and the hands and head move up the same plane

Face on- a little more release with the right hand to engage the bounce more.

I am sure Dan will have some great info for you, those are just IMHO

good luck!

On the face on, it looks like your weight may be moving away on the downswing?

I tried this technique the other night in my backyard. The next day my left elbow was killing me. (Right handed golfer) Still hurts. I think I tried to actually take the club back like a long putt. A SBT putt. I don't know if the pain was caused by coming down into the ground with a kind of chicken wing backswing or what. Obviously I was doing something wrong. I looked at the videos again and saw that Dan was nowhere near as stiff going back as I am. I don't know if I can do what he does since I am so Yippy on my downswing. I tend to stop the club coming down and blade shots with his method.

Why are you chicken winging and why are you stopping. Both arms are extended, not locked, and stay extended and arms and club are swinging. Everyone can do it.
I think I was chicken winging because I was trying to bring my hands straight back on the target line on my backswing and keeping my thumbs pointed down. I am stopping because I have serious yips. Literally scared I might hit the ball too far and I slow down my swing or stop the club into impact.

I'm still working on Dan's chipping method. I have spent at least ten hours practicing. I see some positive results but I still blade and chunk my fair share.

I usually use my G20 lob wedge for shots. I know this isn't ideal but I've tried the Glide 58 degree WS wedge and it was much worse. I don't think I can use a thinner soled wedge because I will chunk the crap out of it or blade it more often than I do now. Chipping yips suck!

Was is the worst wedge you could use. Low bounce and wide. TS is what you need to try. Very high bounce and narrow sole. It won't dig. You should be hitting the ground and hitting it pretty hard. Should be a thump keeping club head low post impact
