GRIP overlap or interlock - can one help square face more?

Not looking at any other tips to get more face rotation.

 

Very simply curious if the overlap interlock has been shown to aid in closing or opening the face a degree or two?

 

Assume slight strong (not overly) on both right and left grip for today's neutral versus old Hogan.

 

I fight squaring face relative to path line. It draws but not enough. I know there are some swing flaws I am working. don't need those tips since working them with a highly trained individual.. Let's stay on topic.

 

I switched to interlock awhile ago. I feel connected, strong. My thought now is that the interlock may be stronger than the pure overlap where there is no tight interlock when holding the grip. Slight tighter grip can cause face to stay open a degree or two.

 

the bear was a interlock and was a fader. tiger is interlock and is good with any stick. doesn't say much for 99.99% of people out there.

 

Anyone know anything about this or has any links that talk about it?

 

I do know if one promotes a stronger adhesive on the grip then that one will stay slightly open more in general. No sure which one if any.

My first ever range session I interlocked and like most golfers I sliced the whole bucket of balls off the planet. The 2nd day I overlapped and it was immediately better for me. I didn't stop slicing (yet) but it felt better and the slice was lessened. I've played with an overlap grip ever since and tried the interlocked grip once after and it made fades easier for me. Now years later a draw is my normal shot. I just played with a guy that actually puts all five fingers of his right hand on the club and doesn't put his index finger of his left hand on the club at all (it just points away) and since he has more fingers of his right hand on the club he said he closed the club easier which makes sense to me. I would think this is the opposite of a double overlap grip like Jim Furyk uses to take more of the right hand out of his swing.

my first test is still iffy. the interlock does seem to have a little more trouble closing the face it also felt tighter in the hands than the interlock which felt lighter especially with the right hand. didn't hit too many balls yet to be conclusive. we would need to get used to the non interlock which is a pain since it feels like the club can come out of the hands which maybe translates into lighter grip pressure?

any others have experience with this?

If you're getting a draw, then you already have the clubface slightly closed to the path.

Increase it, ie get the face more closed, and you'll enter hook horror city...

If you have a nice little draw, then adjust your aim and enjoy it?

I was wondering something very similar, I have a very strong grip and have always used a interlocking grip. Today I was to if you have bigger hands ( mine aren't huge but 8 1/2" are above average) that you should use overlapping and that would also make my grip less strong and allow my wrist to break and so far it's helped. Was wondering if anyone else heard that?

Interlock grip helps me take prevent getting handsy in the transition. Overlap has too much separation for me and I shut the face to compensate.

Well we switched to overlap from interlock. First day was rough then got easier. It does look like it has the ability to close the face a little more than interlock which for the junior I am coaching it helps. Curious if anyone else did a test?

Next I need to start a thread on all t he nuances of the grip. I can take the grip several different ways with different nuances but to someone looking at it from the outside they couldn't see the difference but hey are. Anyway something for a new thread. Curious on overlock vs interlock tests.
