haha - too funny. I didn't take the time to read everyone's posts, but I would probably just mention it to my boss as an FYI in case any members had the same or similar incidents on the range. I'm not sure what your situation is with clubs (if they are your clubs, staff set or what), but I'm the same way about taking care of my clubs and might not let just anyone hit them. I'm an assistant pro at our facility and I do let people try mine since my clubs are a staff set and I'm trying to encourage people to support our shop.... that being said I would encourage someone who might be able to play them reasonably well.... there's no point in me letting a 20+ handicap try my driver and leave a nice mark on top. Actually I probably would let them... I'd just make sure to tee it up for them... low...

Yes they are my own personal clubs, as I am not yet on staff with anyone. We have a golf school on property that is also a certified Titleist, Cobra and PING fitting center with demo days every week, so we don't actually sell anything but putters and wedges in the Pro Shop.

An update to the story, I was down practicing again the other day and the same member came up to me and started chatting it up for awhile. He actually brought up the club hitting from the other day and I told him it was OK, just next it would be appreciated to ask first, but that in hindsight it wasn't a huge deal. We actually went out and played a round yesterday with a couple other members and had a great time.

So, next time he'll ask your permission to use your clubs and you'll grant it?

If you are that comfortable with other people playing your clubs I'm a bit confused as to why you even bothered to complain about him here -- and if you're not comfortable, why did you suggest to him that all he has to do is ask? I hope you didn't create a bigger problem for yourself.

When I told him it was OK, it was on response to him asking if I was put off and mad about him doing it. I told him it was fine, but next time he should definitely ask someone before he messes with their clubs. I'm not OK with people just grabbing my clubs but I'm not going to hold a grudge against a member and dislike him for it. I would be willing to bet my next paycheck that he won't do it again, so I think the best outcome was reached IMO.

Employee or not, you should have politely told him that's not acceptable to touch someones equipment without asking them first. What if he does this to another member that leads to a physical confrontation?

If your boss can't live with you letting members know that you have respect other peoples time and property, it's probably best to move on.

Don't leave your wife alone on the range
I suspect there's more to the story here. Perhaps the OP has been giving "lessons" to the member's wife.
I wish! Lessons for the ladies are the easiest because they actually listen and are nice

You did a nice job and have much more patience than me. He would have certainly received the death stare and a few unsavory words from me. I'll let people I know or at least I have seen swing try something out if they ask. The last thing I want is some chopper bouncing one off the crown of one of my woods.

 • 2 weeks later...

Reminds me of the time I watched a guy put his foot up on the front bumper of my Bimmer and tie his shoe... I gave him an earful, and was just stunned that someone could be that big of a ****!

Irons or wedges, I could care less. If he grabbed the woods without any damage, I'd probably be pissed inside but still try to be cordial. If he grabbed woods and put skymarks, he's reaching for his pocket book! Or I'll help him reach for it...
