Welcome to the secret equipment black hole that is minimalist golf🤣. Now that you have entered you will constantly be looking for everything from bags to clubs that fits your needs perfectly, but gives you plenty of options. First, it’s a Sunday bag that holds everything you need but nothing more, then it’s a mini driver or strong 3 wood that you can play from the tee and the fairway, the quest is endless 😂. I will say I have found that Koger makes the best bag for my situation. They are a little pricey, but they are near perfect.

Two years ago I spent months finding the perfect combo between bag and pull cart. And honestly, I did. And here you are, undoing all that hard work. 

 

Honestly though, a lighter bag, even with the pull cart would be nice. 

 

I do still need ample storage for soda to keep my blood sugars up.

 

Maybe I'll take on this black hole.

I haven’t found the bottom yet. As soon as I think I’ve got my bag figured out Titleist puts out a prototype 2 wood 😂

Good luck with that unicorn. I ended up taking an older carry bag I didn't use anymore and removed the leg assembly and made it a permanent push cart bag,

@petep5280my son used a Jones Players for a little while. It worked ok but not ideal. My guess would be to find a light stand bag with some structure to it.  The Sunday El Camino looks like it would be pretty good.

I have a Jones Trooper II and it's crap on a push cart.

Maybe if I got light and few clubs and switch to M&Ms I can just carry my bag.

I think I can make this work. A lighter bag on my bag with few clubs and balls would be easier than a heavy bag with a push cart.

That's a tough quest.

 

My wife and I are using Jones "original Jones" bags that we got during their 'blind draw sale' (great deal at $60). Works great for walking with a minimalist setup. We use ours all the time. 

 

Downsides are: 

- Limited/not great pocket spaces. 

- Not structured, doesn't work great on a pull cart or golf cart 

 

The Ping Hoofer Lite may be worth a look. Structured, ample pocket space, light, and works well with less clubs. My wife has one along with her Jones bag, and uses it when she plays with a pull cart.

Agree with the Ping Hoofer Lite for a minimalist kit. I carry either 6 or 7 clubs. While the raw bag weight is a bit higher than truly lightweight bags, it’s balanced so well that it’s an easy carry, plus it can work well if/when you decide to use a cart. 
 

I also used a Jones Original for a time, but sold it and bought a super lightweight Titleist carry bag with better pockets.  I’ll swap between that and the Hoofer Lite just to mix things up.

I got a bag boy ztf carry bag that latches to my bag boy cart. It's kind of annoying to latch, but that means it's secure.  

 

With that said, wanting to carry, it's becoming evident clubs are heavy. 10 may be too many to lug. 

 

I should probably drop a few more irons. 

 

Now I'm at putter, sw, pw, 8i, 6i, 5w, driver. 7 clubs.

Great set up, I’m convinced that golfers can play to 100% of their ability with 6-8 clubs.

That’s my current “full” setup. I’ll often leave the driver at home and just carry 6.

I carry on my right shoulder, so I thought it would be weird too. It turns out that it is perfect. I just put the stuff I don’t use as much in the big pocket and put balls/tees/phone in the small pocket. I almost didn’t get one because of that, I’m glad I didn’t.

Driver has always been a problem for me, but I've made it a goal in 2024 to give it a chance to work.

That and 5wood I love. So I don't want to be in a spot where I take out driver, add a 3 wood, and now I'm debating taking out 5 wood.

Here’s the black hole I was talking about. Before too long you’ll be researching mini drivers and looking to add a 7 or 9 wood 🤣. Trust me.

I just tested the bag on my back. I still need to add something to drink and candy, but it's light as can be. Losing 3 clubs really helps. 

 

The next thing to ask, is what do you guys feel about headcovers. I've decided the most economical setup is the one I own. So resale isn't a huge deal. 

 

I still have a cover on Dr, 5w and putter. Sounds like more weight and clutter to me.

I’ve got a cover on my driver and putter. It’s not too bad, I have debated on taking them off but I don’t want to ding them up with my other clubs. I don’t mind dings on my wedges or irons, but I want to keep the other two in good condition.

I'm thinking I'll just toss them in the trunk when I head out to play. It'll be nice having another thing to not screw around with.

I've never hit 3w well off the deck. So that keeps me at bay from thinking I'll hit a small head driver well off the deck.

I can sell my set of wedges and get just a SW. 

 

I do hate the idea of these really nice clubs going totally unused.

I use head covers (still OCD as a minimalist). I drop other unessential items and especially limit the number of balls ... those add weight fast!
