Congratulations!  Certainly sounds like a good start and they should provide a fun option to play with ... especially that 4 iron.

I couldn’t find the club set on the site, maybe I’m blind… but I can share that putter makes an awful sound on impact (I saw it in a YouTube golf match: Grant Horvat and Sergio), he acknowledged the same and said he’s working with the company to try and improve it.

This week’s setup:

 

Adams 16 and 20 hybrids. Adams CMB forged 6-9 irons with 5* loft deltas.  Ping wedges and the trusty M5K.

On a course with no par 5’s I could get away with 5. Par 3 course, 3 or 4 max depending on the terrain. 

That’s a setup I could easily play.  Usually take six when I go out minimalist, but a seventh would smooth things out a bit, although it might be a tight fit in my Sunday Loma bag.

Took the 50° and the 3i out for tonight’s 9. Goal is always pars, birds are a bonus. Might give this setup a full time spot.

Awesome set up! I’ve been considering a mini driver for a long time, it’s just something about the feel and thwack of persimmon that gets to me though.

I’m looking into throwing a persimmon/throwback setup together now. Not for full time, but definitely for the occasional fun round. Plus, something about beating people playing 60 year old sticks

lol, I’m not beating too many people. I have thought about going back to something more forgiving, but I realize that my scores haven’t really changed all that much since going to persimmon full time. If anything has changed it’s the fact that I can find my ball more often, it’s just not as far away 😆

I have to ask, did you just order the three irons or break apart a set?  How did the nine go?

I learned a while ago that I need to get the whole set and just use the clubs I need. I used to order just the 3 clubs, but selling when I wanted to move on was terrible. Lol

 

2 bogeys, 1 bird and rest pars. Solid outing. Putter is getting out in timeout for a little bit

To me, having a full set to work with is a no-brainer.  Having the option to alternate evens and odds is just part of the whole minimalist adventure...being a minimalist in no way means you have to limit yourself. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm just the opposite ... the more choices I have, the tougher time I have committing.

Ya, that is where I’m at. Thats why I have 5 clubs😆. I think that’s why my scores are constantly lower now. It sounds dumb, but I’ve just been playing better with 5 clubs.

To clarify, I’m only advocating having a full set to choose from before  you go out for a minimalist round.  Once you’ve selected your 6 or 7 clubs for the day, those are your only choices; the others stay in the car.  If your 7 iron isn’t in the bag, for example, it should be easier to figure out, based on gapping, whether the 6 or 8 will work better.  Therefore I would think it would be easier to commit to whichever you decide.  Of course, YMMV.

This past weekend I played in a 4 club tournament, I used 3W, 7i, GW and putter, shot 73 go figure...hit all fairways, 16-18 greens only one bogey, couldn't putt to save my life, two putted everything but one hole, had to choke down on some shot, swing a bit faster on others, but played well overall...

I bought a 7, AW, and SW.

Then I found the 5, 6, 8, and 9 irons and eBay and put in my fitted shaft in all of them!

Though I took out the 5 as it wasn't a useful club in my bag and put back the old 22* 4 iron I had used before buying new clubs.  Saved a bit of money that way!

Per the discussion above, I usually build entire sets, then grab half sets to play with.  However, lately I've been finding sets listed with one club missing, or like the Taylormade P770 irons shown above, they were just the 6-9 set.  So I've started flushing out the top end of the irons using demo heads as a basis. 

 

You can often find 6 and 7 iron demo heads for cheap, from say $10 to $30 each.  Then I build them up.  And even in the same brand, you can have different lofts across 6-irons if you grab say a chunkier game improvement style head.  So it may say 6-iron, but it plays at 26* loft, which is really 5i loft.

 

I also like building my own adapters, as some of the demo heads use special adapters that are hard to find.  I make mine out of aluminum, and do a combined adapter/ferrule in one.  Lets me play with swingweight, as some of the demo heads have little pockets to add brass weights too.

 

I've got a good selection of irons in the 25-29* range to choose from on the top end of the iron range.  Honma, Muira, Tour Edge, TM, Callaway, Srixon, Epon, Mizuno etc.  

 

Toss in a couple short irons and a wedge, and you can build all sorts of short sets.

Recently put a Mini driver in play and i got rid of my 460cc driver. After hitting a few off the deck the other day i realized it easly could replace my 3 wood as well. Going to try it out tomorrow with Mini, 5,7,9,G,L,P. If nothing else it will be a lot easier to carry!

Crazy how sometimes it just works better, my normal score at that course is around 72-75 with a full bag...lol, 73 with only 4 clubs, love this game!!!!

Pulled this from the one-length thread, but I just built these over the weekend.  Proclubs had brand new still in the wrapper Cobra Forged One-Length heads for $32 each.  I went with a 5, 6, 8, 9, and ended up at 25*, 30*, 35*, and 41* lofts after bending.  I think I'm going to bend the 9i weaker and back to 42* just because I spent my morning hitting it long everywhere.  I did have to mess with swingweight a bunch though, as the heads were not particularly even weight wise.  The 5i was 5g heavier than the 9i head.  But I got everything balanced out right at D3.0 with a 37.5" length (my normal 7 length.)  But this gave me a nice spread from a solid 180yd shot with the 25* 5i, or a soft 100-110yd shot with the 40* 9i and most distances in between.  Really nice launch and peak height too, paired up with some 60g graphite shafts,
