best looking guy on tour, best looking swing on tour, Ranked #2 in the world. he sounds like the perfect nike guy. Why didn't nike grabbed him when he first came on the tour?

Sorry guys, you can't go back and forth like that. You stand by your players or you don't, nobody needs friends who are the first ones to stab your back when things go badly.
Down through the years many Aussie players have complained about this. I bet it has kept some from coming back to support the tournaments.

Was fun to watch. Good to see Scotty play well. I think I may have said this last year, but next year is going to be really good! If Stenson and Scott can keep this up, and the young 'uns from this year can play well, it will be a great season.

It's not a treatment reserved golfers, all athletes seem to get their fair share. But I guess that's Australia - there's a hard-to-explain underlying anger and agression in the society which just makes people love to see others fall. That, and an obsession with trashy sentimentalism. Jarrod Lyle was already a victim of the latter which quite trivialised his extraordinary recovery and I guess Jason Day will soon get his share of the same.

Can you explain how the coverage of Lyle has been trashy or tell us how you think it should have been handled? Is there a way to do it that wouldn't have trivialised it?

Maybe we could have had Jimmy Roberts doing a scripted set piece? That wouldn't have trivialised it at all.

I'm very glad to see Scott playing so well. His ball striking is just out of this world and he's been absolutely on fire in Australia.

Talking about Australia... one can't really expect much from the local media, but is anybody else here disgusted by the media's handling of Adam Scott? The newspapers and TV channels were the first ones to crucify him and came on him real hard after the loss to Els. There were even TV commercials making fun of him. When he got his green jacket, the media wasn't that excited and still kept playing the Els card. And now that he wins a couple of not-so-significant events in Australia the media talks about it like it was the second coming of a messiah. Sorry guys, you can't go back and forth like that. You stand by your players or you don't, nobody needs friends who are the first ones to stab your back when things go badly.

The media is fickle at best here.

Out of curiosity, where did they make fun of his loss?

The actual coverage on channel 7 was absolutely woeful. Commercials every 5 mins and that cheesy mofo Sandy Roberts making me puke with his over the top comments. He should stick to the footy. He knows jack about golf.

Sandy Roberts has been a fixture in Australian golf commentary for at least 20 years - he's been doing the same schtick over and over during that time - you might as well hate on Richie Benaud for saying "2 for 22" or whatever. Channel 7s coverage has been about the same as it always was - there have been improvements in the expert commentary (Baker Finch talking about shaft lean for several minutes on the Saturday for example) and the camera work is a lot better these days.

The Australian media didn't make fun of his loss as far as I recall - maybe someone like Fitzsimmons in the Fairfax paper did? As far as TV commercials? That's a new one on me.

Anyway, point is he sucks big ones.

When you compare the coverage to the PGA Tour or to the European Tour, it's amateur hour.

Overall the commentary team was good, with the exception of Peter Donegan. He is a spots callr who has never excelled at sport, but insists on giving his opinions on what players are thinking and doing. Nothing is kore annoying than a non golfer or hacker trying to give expert opinions. Sandy Roberts has the good sense to stick to talking up the atmosphere and excitement but defer to the experts for expert opinion. Donegan carries on like he thinks he actually knows what's going on with the players, even trying to talk over the top of baker finch at times.

I guess I need to elaborate a bit.

Re: Lyle, Ch.7 was making such a big issue of him crying at the tee box. It's like there's 5 min of show of which a substantial chunk is dedicated on showing Lyle cry. Jump into yet another commercial break half of which is news flash first showing Lyle cry and then showing Kevin Rudd cry. C'mon! Give the man some dignity! Lyle that is, Rudd probably never had much to start with. I thought Aussie blokes are tough guys insteady of teary eyed wimps!

How to do it right? Well, call in Brett Ogle. Is it Golf Show where Ogle plays a round and chats with a visitor? IMHO, he did the show with Lyle really well, very positive instead of saggy and sentimental. In fact, I was thinking throughout the coverage that they should get Ogle to the studio instead of those guys who sound like Peter Sellers doing Beatles in Irish accent.

Scott... I just can't remember which commercial it was which specifically made a point of ridiculing his loss. Could be a sports betting company or could be a sandwich, I really can't remember, which is annoying because I specifically decided to never use their product given how bad taste that commercial was.

Oh well, the World Cup of Golf awaits. Should be interesting. And the weather is just about to turn bad again. I'm going to sue the Aussie government for misleading advertising! They promised me skin cancer if I relocate here. They promised me severe draught if I relocate here. They said wine will be cheaper than water. There was no "actual user experience may vary" small print. And look at the weather we are getting!

Tiger's event is a fine charity outing, but it is absurd that it and the Nedbank have OWGR status.

The Nedbank has become an official event on the European Tour and Sunshine Tour starting this year

Thanks, I didn't know that until now. I see they've increased the field size to 30.

I don't know Brett Ogle personally, so take this with a grain of salt, but lets just say he wasn't the most popular fellow on the Australian tour when he was around. Apparently a bit of a ****head. Don't know if he's changed much over the years, apparently he's the type of guy you can only take in small doses when in the same personal vicinity.

Scott has become a great worldwide player !!
Expect a great 2014 for this winner !!
He sure has. Adam has won at least one tournament worldwide in each of the last 13 seasons.

I have seen a couple of interviews in which Adam has declared his desire to prove that this great run is not merely a short-lived streak. He is keen to build on his successes.

To me, Adam is the epitome of the ideal golfing champion; handsome, athletic, highly skilled, classy and well spoken. He's a great sportsman, and I hope he has a huge 2014.

You get that feeling that he will have another big year in 2014. With his reduced schedule which basically preps him for the majors, he definitely doesn't burn himself out and is fresh for the entire season.

Stevie on the bag is also a major driving force for Adam. The guy is a winner and now Adam shares that same mentality.

Steve said he was going to retire after 2014. Probably because Adam will have to start using a short putter, na jk he has been caddying for 35 years and I think he wants to just relax a bit. Would be interesting to see if Adam keeps up his form once Steve leaves, there is no doubt that Steve had a positive impact on Adam's game. I'm sure Adam will.

Stevie and the short putter have had a big impact on his mental game. Scott has always had the talent, but he now has a confidence and mental toughness that wasn't there before. I predict he will have a big 2014 and 2015, but will come to a screeching halt when he can't anchor his putter to his body in 2016. He won't fall off the planet, but he won't be where he is now.

I'm not sure the anchor ban will actually affect him that much, he still makes almost nothing with the long putter and he will no doubt use a claw grip or the like in 2016. It is a testament to his tee to green game that he wins, he misses so many 10-20 foot putts
I could actually see him being quite successful with the counter-balanced version of the Futura he uses now.

Good post.....that's pretty spot on. The last 2 tournaments that he's one here in Oz, he's rolled the putter really well with so many near misses. But you're right in saying that he's a phenomenal tee to green game is what makes him an exceptional player.

In my not-so-humble opinion, Adam Scott is a better putter, and has a better short game than Henrik Stenson. Therefore, I think as we look into the immediate future, Adam is more likely to win majors than Henrik. He's also more likely to win in general.

Now don't get me wrong...I'm not down on Henrik Stenson. I just think Henrik is playing at a level (primarily due to his ball-striking) he is not likely to continue indefinitely. He will cool off, and when he does his weaknesses will prevent him from playing consistently better than guys like Tiger, Adam, and even Phil.
I would have to say this is spot on. No doubt that Stenson is playing at a level above anyone else right now but I cant see that continuing for too much longer. He is also known for his displays of temper & IMO that will affect him when the games not quite on and he needs to grind it out & accept some bad holes. But Stenson certainly peaked at the right time...

Yeah those 2 putts that clinched the Masters were gimmes lol. He is totally dependant on the broomstick. He was a basket case on the greens with a proper putter. The cheater putter was a desperate move, almost a last throw of the dice. His game has been totally transformed, no doubt at all it is all down to the putter.

I don't know back in the year when he won The Players his putter was hot. Then this year's Open Championship in the final round he missed some easy putts with the broom. He seems to have spells with it, which points to a confidence thing.

Bit off topic but during the Aussie PGA that he won they showed this picture on the TV that I haven't seen before, pretty patriotic of Leishman to celebrate a fellow oponents putt!!
