turn left shoulder toward right knee?

lsh

Recommended Posts

In one of the threads I read recently someone mentioned a tip from Monte about turning the left shoulder towards the right knee and how much that one thing helped.

My ball striking has been a bit off so I walked a few holes last night hitting several balls and after struggling too long I tried that thought and things improved quickly. ( I must have been turning too level with my shoulders )

Can someone expand on this a bit more? Is it in one of Monte's youtube videos?

Thanks

I mentioned the feel of turning your left shoulder south east to your right heel in golfnffs thread and then he said Monte had told him something similar in a lesson I believe? i could be mistaken.

it would help with getting a shoulder turn more 90* to your spine if your turn is a bit flat and also help get a deep right hip

To make a full turn, think more about getting the right shoulder over right foot. Here's the excellent article from Monte.

I'll add one thing that should be obvious but never is to me: this isn't a feel for everyone! I had an instructor tell me this feel and it was actually harmful to my swing. I ended up going more down than around, and got weight turned in to my left toes, which is bad. If it works, excellent! But anyone reading should be open to realizing when it doesn't (unlike me).

I don't understand getting right shoulder over right foot. I clicked the link and the article opened but there are ads on both sides of the screen covering most of the article making it unreadable and I can't figure out how to get rid of them.

I had the same problem when I went to the home page. Wait a bit and maybe it will clear up. If not, I have the original article which I will cut and paste.

Mods: there seems to be an ad glitch on the home page and subsequent pages. Can you fix?

After a couple attempts I got to read the article. I did not see where Monte was advocating turning the right shoulder over the right foot. But then it would not be the 1st time I missed something.

Edit: Monte's point is turn only as far as you can. Don't get the right shoulder turn so far it's closer to the left foot, don't over rotate, don't let the spine tilt toward the target, don't let the arms out run the turn.
Egro keep the right shoulder more over the right foot?

For me, the right shoulder over the right foot doesn't seem to rectify my issue (flat shoulder turn going back with some spine angle loss). I've never thought about left shoulder over right knee...may give this a go.

OP, do you have your swing on vid?

Nothing recent.

Here are 2 swing keys that have worked for me throughout the years:

1) Stand Tall, Don't you fall, Don't go and do something foolish...
2) Hold on loosely and don't let go...

If you are old enough to remember these 2 tunes, then start humming(do not sing them unless you are the band loverboy) when you play. Does wonders for the mental side as well as reinforce what you need to be doing with Posture and grip pressure. If you are too young to remember what I have written, then I guess you may want to google this stuff. Hope this helps.

My approach is different feels for different people to get the same result.

Not everything I say works for everyone.

That being said, if I saw your swing, is be able to point you to a more appropriate concept that suits you.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

I have watched a segment with Monte explaining about the graph and how the club should travel on a straight plane through that graph. I would like to see that segment again if its available. This is the best peice of advice someone could give you on a forum like this. Thanks for your thoughts and advice on here Monte.

I have to admit I am old enough and I am familiar with 38 special but not Burton Cummings.

I would be honored to have you critique my swing. It is freezing here right now but may warm up to 45 in a couple days. If I get a chance I will try to shoot a couple video clips.

I made a couple quick videos today. This is 135 yards I'm using a 9 iron. I tried what I thought were 3 different thoughts but I see very little difference with the exception of the one I tried to reach out more to give me more space to swing. I could not attach them straight from my computer so I loaded them to Youtube & am going to try to attach the links.

The 1st one is keep the hands in front of chest. This shot was pulled left of the green by about 15 yards. The thought for the 2nd is left shoulder toward right knee. This was higher, straighter, and a bit short. The 3rd is reach more to give room for the arms to work. This was center of the green. I did not have a lot of time to warm up & do it proper.
My opinion - I see a bit of out from the top, and a bit of chicken wing follow through.
