The search hasn't helped me on this...Parallel shaft tipping questions.

So I'm building a backup / project set of macgregor v-foil tourneys and I have a set of raw s300s that could go into them BUT i'm an x100 guy.

So the question is: Is it possible to tip the s300s an extra amount to where they might play similar to the standard tipping of the x100? I don't mind if I lose a little launch and spin as i'm a high ball hitter with lots of spin and a Nick Price like tempo.

Thanks for your help

I play parallel S3's in my irons and I tipped them all so it'd be the equivalent of double hard stepping and I couldn't be happier. I just went an extra inch on the trimming.

What about hard-stepping your S300's? You may have to buy an extra shaft, but beats buying a whole set of X100s.
These shafts are parallel tip so that is easily done but I was hoping someone would know the amount I would need to tip them to get them as close as possible to x100s. In my current set [same clubs] they are x100s tipped to the true temper recommendations at 1" for the 3 iron then .5" down from there with .25" from 9 to PW. So i was thinking a hard step twice with 2" from the 3 iron would be somewhat close. Just hoping some knew exactly what the tip amount would be.

I posted too soon. I think I'll go with this maybe an extra 1/8" unless someone else chimes in.

Say what? Hard-stepping a parallel tipped shaft? I'm confused.

2 inches is the generally accepted diference. In combination flex shafts you tip the shaft an additional 2" to get the stiffer flex.

The eqivellant in taper tip shafts would be hard stepping 4 times (though you end up with wedge shafts in everything up to your 6 iron.)

So in you example above the tipping for he 3 iron would be 3".

Hope this helps.

If you tip the S300 and extra 2 inches you would end up close to X300.Back off half an inch and i would say that would be close

X100's have a softer tip section than S300's.
This is true for the taper tip version, but not the parallels. One needs to keep the difference in mind when trying to match these shafts.

In my experience hardstepping 1 time equals about 1/3 difference in flex. So hardstep tapers 3x or trim an inch and a half from parallel to achieve a flex in the area of one full flex stiffer. The profile will be different (generally mugh 'tighter' feeling imo), but you may like it more.

Taylormade Sim2 10.5° (turned down to 9°) - Tensei White 60 stiff

Ping G400 3 and 5 Woods - Diamana D+ Limited 70 stiff

Ping G400 22° Hybrid - Diamana D+ 90 Stiff

Ping i200 5-UW - Modus Tour 105 stiff

Vokey SM4 54° and 58° - DGS-300

Sorry if this is poor etiquette but I had the same question but for a r300 .370 blank to play closer to s300.

Was going to tip an extra 1.5" to start. I thought the TT trimming guide / stepping patterns showed S300 and r300 were identical except for 2" if tip. But x100 was different if I remember correctly

If it matters it's for a 4hybrid. Playing cfs stiff now which are a little light and soft, launches too high in I20 irons and a vista pro 90 in the 3 hybrid (a lil too stiff low Lauch)

This is an experiment

The "1/3rd flex difference" works for some shafts, but there's a greater distance between flexes in the Dynamic/DG shaft world; about 16 to 20 cpm, compared to 10 cpm in the Rifle world. A single step in either direction is only about a quarter flex in DG.

It is indeed 2" that should get you roughly where you want to go. The difference in tip section in tapered between DGR, DGS, and DGX are all 2". For parallel DG, they made DGX a slightly different shaft with a different step pattern, in order to make it stiffer than DGS; this is possibly because of the amount of tip section they felt would be necessary, for customization.

I've done this myself, tipping DGS shafts an extra 2" per shaft, and I think the results are decent. Stiffened up the shafts nicely IMHO.
(I went this route because I wanted less tip section, but also thinking of acquiring some DGX300 parallel, just to see the difference)

Have you tried frequencing it out at every 1/2 or 1/4 inch til you reach your desired cpm? If you have the frequency machine. I guess with each head having slightly different weights if you wanted to get that particular.

I didn't have a frequency machine and clamps, when I did mine so had to pick one up.

Hope all works out.
You have it backwards. S300 has a softer tip than X100. The tip to first step measurement of the X100 is 2 inches less than the S300.
No, he is correct, the X100 is softer.
