I disagree! I synced my Touch last week and used it since with no problems whatsoever. Makes me wonder when I have the same product and no problems, and others alledgely experience this or that.

Hasn't that always been the frustration with SG? It's hit or miss with some software releases, and makes you wonder why some, but not all, devices are affected.

Never had issues with 3 Skycaddies "after" download. The only problem was "how long it took to download". No problems with Touch, not even download. I still haven't used all it offers.

Being close to software biz and years back having written front-end applications, colleagues and I determined there will always be a segment that have issues. We tie it to frame of mind, lack of knowledge, impulsive reactions and impatience that lead to tech problems. Though some releases are premature, due to how code is written today and updated, its mostly user issue.

How do you explain multiple users complaining of battery drain and the hardware getting hot? That definitely doesn't sound like a user error.

It could be a problem, but if I never experienced those problems with the same release unit, it could be someone has poor judgment regarding each of those conditions. I never experienced battery drain or a hot unit; yet their all built using relatively the same hardware, bios, operating system and software, though maybe3 from different suppliers. Sure a bios release could have issues, but that would likely affect all units running the same bios release. Not every release, and most users don't have a clue what release they have.

Just because someone says they are experiencing this or that on some discussion/support board, I won't assume their measure of conditions are accurate. Many years back I owned a application software company. We built systems and wrote gui front ends. Can't tell you how many calls we get saying this or that happened and of course, the user never did nothing. We'd soon find out he/she did something to cause the blue-screen, etc. Had one person lose their computer AC plug, so they grabbed another and plugged it in... Low and behold the computer had problems because it wasn't the right wattage. Had people start and stop computers in the middle of upgrades, so part of the code was installed, but not all. That leads to a fix failing, etc., affecting other aspects. All sorts of things can happen when impatient and inexperienced people mess with tech.

I would ask a person tell me exactly what buttons you pushed on the key board and or mouse. They'd ponder and start saying while the computer was doing this, they hit that and hit this and so forth... If someone interrupts a bios upgrade / fix, it can cause problems in a few areas, that might not immediately show up. What's not going to happen is that bozo isn't going to go onto a discussion board and say what he did. Just this or that happened, blaming the company.

Having owned multiple SG devices over the years, I am long past the point of giving SG the benefit of the doubt. I've been burned by buggy releases a few times. It seems they've perfected the Microsoft model of releasing a buggy version with new features, releasing one or two patch versions to correct the flaws, and then repeating the cycle. Given that the previous release was nice and stable, I wouldn't be shocked to learn that this release is half baked.

I finally upgraded from the 5 to a touch.

Is there any way to change the order of the views when you go from one to the next?

I have three views set, HoleVue, IntelliGreen, targets. That's also the order in which they show up when I press the view button. I'd prefer the targets screen to come before the IntelliGreen.

When you get to the target screen, it displays the farthest targets first and you have to scroll down to get to the closer ones. Kind of a pain on the tee of a par 5.

I'd like them to add the option of tapping on a target to get more detailed information. The 5 had that.

RangeVue on/off should be a universal setting.

No, I believe the Target View is always the 3rd view displayed. Having it displayed before the IntelliGreen view does makes more sense, though. Also, an option to display the target list sorted by closest to furthest would be nice.

RangeView can be turned on/off on each hole by tapping outside the fairway on the HoleView. I don't believe there's a global setting for disabling the feature.

Right, no global option, but I noticed that when I have a course already loaded and press "menu" it shows "round options." One of options there is RangeVue: without clubs, with clubs, or off.

I submitted these via chat today. Maybe they'll see that they make sense and implement them.

Wow, an update. Unfortunately they didn’t move Targets ahead of Intelligreen in the view order.

Yeah, I got an email notifying me about the update. It looks like the big new feature is an auto-dim function that turns off the backlight after 30 seconds of inactivity. The backlight turns on when the screen is touched. It should add a bit to the battery life.

Hi Everyone,

I've been playing w/ the SC Linx watch for 3 years and the battery is dying on me (will not keep a charge for an entire round). I spoke to a rep (via chat) to see if I could replace the battery but it's not possible (and I just renewed my membership 10 months ago for 3 years). So, I'm searching for my next SC device.

I may get another watch but I'm also considering the Touch. Hoping someone can help w/ some basic questions:

1) Is it small enough to throw in my pocket during the round? I don't think I would ever wear it on my belt. From the specs it looks like it's not as thin as say an iphone but it doesn't look too bad.

2) When I go on boys trips, we usually plat 36+ holes a day. If I bring a portable battery charger, can I charge it while using it?

3) On the website there is an image w/ overlays with recommended club to use - how does it know how far I hit a club? Is that something you configure by club or can you measure a shot and then tell it what club you hit?

Appreciate the help.

I think it's small enough to fit in your pocket, but it's much thicker than a modern smartphone. It would be rather bulky. I clip it on my belt, and it's barely noticeable.

I get two rounds out of the battery with the back light set to 25%. The latest software update automatically dims the screen after a few minutes of inactivity, which is supposed to increase the battery life. I see no reason why a battery pack wouldn't work.

Yes, I believe you enter your clubs w/ distances in the settings menu. Keep in mind that this feature is not legal in competition.

I've had my Touch for two seasons now, and while not perfect, I think it's the best Skycaddie to date.
