I've got a question for you guys here that have played Pings for years. Some of my best rounds were played with Eye2's. If I hit the old Eye2's with no issues at all,is there any reason I couldn't play S55's? For you guys that have the 55's,are they that much more unforgiving than old Eye2's?

S55's are small blade-like players clubs, Eye2's are game improvement. Needless to say Eye2 are more forgiving.

I wanted to play the S55's more than anyone, I really did. Thought they were absolutely the nicest looking iron I've ever seen. However, I just don't have them time necessary to be proficient with them so I stayed with the G-series. Even though my G25's don't look like as nice as the S55's, they're still PINGs and they make me look a lot better than I really am. I have no regrets playing them.

I would say the i series is closer to the Eye 2 than the S55. I'm not a Ping guy but the S55s are not going to be very forgiving compared to Eye 2s.

The s55' are not as forgiving as the eye 2's, but the s56 and the s8's should be as forgiving. I tried the s55's though, and I couldn't tell much of a difference on mishits, and they seem similar. If you think that you can play the eye 2's to the bs o your extent, then I would suggest getting the s55's.

I think the biggest issue will not be so much the actual forgiveness, but rather the difference in looks at address. The s55s will be a much sleeker looking design with a thinner top line and way less offset. With the technology that is in the 55s, I would be shocked if the MOI between the two clubs is dramatically different. That said, it is very hard to put a value on how much (or how little) the difference in look plays on your confidence.

I played Eye 2 for about 15 years and now play S56. In some circumstances, such as playing off uneven, grassy, sandy, or hard pan lies, the S56 is more forgiving that the Eye 2.
Go ahead and buy the S55.

Go with the i20s. No reason not to.
[/quote]

I have the I20's now and though they are the wrong fit for me it's not the head size that bothers me,it's the shafts. I just figured playing 1980's forgiving irons might compare to today's players irons.

Can't see spending $300 on shafts.I only play 6-U in my irons so I'd rather spend the extra money on new irons. It's the American way! :D

I remember one of the PING guys (might have been Jertson or Nicolette when he was still with them) saying awhile back that the MOI of a S56 was higher than the Eye 2.

This is correct, however this does not make the club less workable. Big difference.

It all comes down to how well you strike a typical iron shot. The Eye2 offers more forgiveness than the S55. The S55 offers more forgiveness than a muscleback blade like the 714 MB. If you are a reasonably good ball striker, i.e. you hit it around the center of the face of the iron face, then the S55 will present no problem. If you hit is thin, chunk a lot of irons, or hit it out on the toe, consider another option than the S55. You'll enjoy the game more.

My misses are usually towards the toe a little.I may hit a few thin but that's just a little problem how sneaking a peek than type of iron I'm playing. I don't feel intimidated by my I20's at all. Biggest problem I have is too much spin and loss of distance due to balooning.
