Ping irons

Got fitted for G25, CFS Stiff, yellow, standard length last year.

 

Came from G2,S58,I15.

 

Played my worst golf ever this year. Index from 9.6 to 13.8.

 

Went to Golf Galaxy today and wanted to hit some clubs and get some numbers. Great employee there spent some time with me.

 

7 iron testing: 82-84 mph -2 angle of decent.

G25 CFS stiff. 29-31 launch angle. 3500-4000 spin

G25 c taper 120. 25-26 5600-5800

S55. C taper 120. 27-28. 6500-6800

I20 c taper 120. 28. 6600-7000

Hit s56. Lost 10 plus yards.

 

So do I just reshaft the G25 and be happy or sale G25 and get i20 or S55.

That's awfully hard to give you a recommendation based off the information provided. Where were you originally fit for the g25s? An almost 5 stroke drop in handicap is hard to phantom just due to shafts in an iron. Any other information provided about what performance you were seeing with the g25s vs previous sets would be helpful.

I assume that the most recent irons were the i15's and S58's. I have had a hard time going from more offset to less offset. Maybe you are having a hard time going to the more offset irons.

I would go back to the place that fitted you with the numbers and see what they might recommend. At first blush, it appears that you are less than satisfied with the G25's so I would say ,SELL and move on.

I would be curious to know WHY you feel your current irons are a problem. Are you constantly miss hitting and the ball is going all over the place or is there a specific flight problem.

Your numbers are interesting, CFS stiff launchs highest but spins the lowest, too low for a 7 iron. You are getting more spin with the C Tapers, strange. Might be a swing weight over all weight issue.

Yes the offset is not pleasant to my eye. I feel I'm never lined up correctly. I try to strengthen grip or close club face or such.

My miss is a heel impact with a high fade. I'm about 6 degrees face open at impact. I understand this is an issue in itself but this is my miss.

This is now a resounding, SELL and buy the S55's.

Spoke to Ping today. They did not believe the cfs spin numbers. They said to first before spending too much money on reshafting get the loft adjusted 2 degrees strong and see if that brings down the ball flight. They said even 25 degrees is too high in there eyes. So going to pack up the clubs and send them off.

So if these numbers are right, don't you need about double the spin rate your getting currently? Wouldn't strengthening the lofts have the opposite effect?
