Terms you want announcers to stop using

Damon Hack has destroyed the term ''butter cut'' forever. In the past week while hosting Morning Drive he has described arrant iron shots and drives on their simulator as butter cuts more time then should be allowed, OK Damon, we get it. You like using the term.

"Wrap Around Season" i know they are filling in at some point but do they need to keep going on about it?

Anyone played "bull5h1t bingo" in a meeting? Deffo think there is a marketing opportunity to have an online "Bogey Bingo" site / app... log in, watch the game and as soon as the words are used, hit that word with your virtual dobber and win prizes! (If anyone uses that idea its here in black and white first!! My invoice is in the post!)

I'm on board with the "fairway metal" or "3 metal". Nance has a tendency to be portentous, and McCord has a stable of scripted one-liners.

Still amazed how many of the commentators don't actually know the difference between a rescue and a fairway wood.. Or even the type of club a rescue is!

Edit: I actually meant topspin

I was going to give this thread a complete swerve until this week when they came up with the "Fal-does" and the "Fal-don't". Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. No the corn is just too much; stop it now!

Referring to first year Champions Tour players as "rookies."

Come on. Most of these guys have played competitive golf for some 40 years.
[/quote]
I'm sure the Champions Tour 'rookies' don't mind it.

It's like hitting 30yo and still getting carded for buying beer. Kind of feels good haha.

I hate when they say a distance is so many "paces." I guess they think it's the same as yards, and sounds educated, but it isn't, and it doesn't. There is no official definition for it. The closest thing to agreement on it says it's 30 inches, but there's no way of knowing whether that is what is meant by a particular speaker (and even if it is, who uses 30-inch units for anything?).

In practice, a pace can mean either one step or two steps, and step length varies with the person. So it really could be anything from two feet to two yards.

The civilized world adopted standardized distances several centuries ago for a reason. Somebody should tell golf announcers about it.

Most golfers recognize a pace as approximately 1 yard. Or so I assumed.

I'm tired of practically everything they say. They just talk too much. It's not radio. Plus, they are all old guys. I'm 55, but these guys sound tired and bored. How about some fresh voices? All the announcers don't have to be retired players. How about some guys who have something original to say?

Using the word 'professional' as an adjective...eg A professional miss or that was a professional par as used yesterday when Tiger carved it right off the tee, missed the green, clumsy chip and then canned it.

I don't understand why the "metal" one bothers people, it was called a "wood" back in the day because that's what it was made of, just like an iron is called an iron… you get the point. By all means, I still call mine a 3 wood out of habit from growing up, but if we're being totally legalistic lol.

But the one that bothers me is when whoever the announcer is says " So and So is the Best ____ I've ever seen." and it always changes from week to week depending on whoever is doing ____ the best that week. Like, I've heard Jim Nantz say Person A, B, C, D, E and F are all the best Putters on tour, within the span of the same number of tournaments.

I want them to be banned from using the word, "the," because maybe they would be forced to stop and actually think about what they are saying before blurting out the first thing that comes to mind. Or just shutting up completely. Actually, they should just clam it.
