Thanks for the heads up. What's another good suggestion that would be pretty close to how Bear Trace generally is? Anything in GA worth looking at (we're actually staying Ft Oglethorpe)?

Stonebridge in Rome, fields ferry in Calhoun but I haven't played there in a while.

Never played it but have heard good things about Canyon Ridge. I think its in Rising Fawn Ga.

Pretty sure I'm gonna check out Canyon Ridge. They're on GolfNow with a pretty good price. Thanks for the advice everyone. . .I'll report back next week sometime with my thoughts on the course.

Heard Canyon Ridge had winter kill issues..

I would expect most North Georgia mountain courses to have various amounts of winter kill. I know Crystal Falls had some especially on the tees. They have been working hard to replace the grass. Between vacation, weekend chores, and weather, it has been over a month since I have been able to get up there and play. It least this Saturday looks like I will be able to get up there and play.

I played bear trace on monday, the winter kill is remedied, there is a spot on 10 that is a bit rough, but the course was in great shape.

To report back. . .I didn't get to play Canyon Ridge as they had private events yesterday and today, so I ended up at Bear Trace which was my initial first choice anyway. Winter kill wasn't an issue at all. Like Naws said, worst spot was on #10. . .apart from that the winter kill areas were either resodded or so small you'd be really unlucky if you stayed in one. Greens were very sandy but rolled incredibly true. All in all I'd definitely play there again if I'm ever visiting/vacationing in the area in the future.

Reviving this thread. I'm going to be in Chattanooga sometime during the week of July 13 and looking to play 1 or 2 rounds. Looking to play Canyon Ridge, Sweetens Cove or maybe Sewanee. Does anyone know the current conditions of these courses? I know Sweetens just opened and I think Sewanee did too, after a face lift. Anyone want to meet up for a round? I will welcome an invite to one of the privates in the area.

unfortunately not, sweetens is an option, as is sewanee. Canyon ridge is OK, Chattanooga GCC is having their member guest that weekend, which I'll be playing in.

Its about an hour to bear trace in crossville, which is a nice track.you could also try nob north, its a decent public down in dalton.

If I were you, id do two rounds(9s) at sweetens, then go to sewanee. for an E9

Which golf course is right off I-75 when you are entering Chattanooga from the south?

That is Brown Acres at the I75/I24 split. They are undergoing green replacement on 9 holes.

I'm from Nashville and meeting some customers half way on Sept 10th. Harrison Bay has a tourney, Canyon Ridge is closed for aireated greens so I will book at Nob North but they don't take tee times until 5 days out.

Anyone with any private hookups?

Minarets, look into Sweetens Cove. Its a 9 hole course in South Pittsburg. Just opened a couple months ago. I haven't played it but looks very interesting and unique from the pictures I've seen of it. Also Sewanee would be something to look into. Maybe a phone call could get you on at Blackcreek?

Sweeten's Cove is a very unique course to TN, fun to play, be ready for a challenge. Played Nob North on Saturday, it's in good condition.

Good to here about nob north. That is likely our destination. Black creek and chat cc said they would let us play but one is punching the green and the other has a mid am. Lookout said sure too but wants $130 ea to play. That is a lot!

Played Bear Trace at Tims Ford yesterday and it is in excellent shape.

That is the course that the Scratch Golf guys bought! Anyone give some detail on it?

Played Nob North on Thursday of last week and thought it was great. Surprised no one talks of it that much. For $38 for 18, had the great GPS in the carts and was a fun layout. We played 27, backside twice ( first time from white tees, second from blue) and had some great holes and unique greens. They were bent grass which we don't see in Nashville anymore.

Played Sweetens Cove on Friday. $38 for 9. Kinda high for $9 I'd say but the course was fun. Looks like something in Oregon, not Chattanooga when on the course. Huge a** greens with A TON of elevation on those greens. Some may be 5 tiers. #4 is 20,000 sq ft. Because of the greens, and false fronts, it can play hard. Fun place for sure. No amenities yet. No range, no practice area, no clubhouse.

Haven't played nob north in years always enjoyed it.. Have u played fields ferry in Calhoun or Stonebridge in Rome? Pretty gd tracks to play..

I love Nob North. One of my favorite places to play when I lived near Chattanooga.
