I have a few clients who are allergists. This is literally ground zero for allergens. There are more allergy issues here than anywhere else in the country. Happy to be relatively immune from the worst of them.

I believe it. I was driving around and there was this yellow smog in the air. It was awful.

I hope he had a good year. The campus is much nicer now than when I graduated in 1990.

He loved it.  Went by real fast.  Can’t believe they are done in April. I think they are changing their dates to mirror UT. Knoxville next year…heard all the state schools were going to but not sure.  He loves Chattanooga. Loves the people.  Loves the vibe, loves all the outdoor activities to do.

he was in West Campus and they were nice.  He is moving to some of those new apartments on Amnicola across from the boathouse.  One river place or something like that.

The new apartments look nice.

My son is at UTK and the schedule is definitely different. There's a five-week winter term that he has never taken so he's nearly done by Thanksgiving and doesn't go back til mid-January.

To get back on topic, our courses have definitely greened up over the last few weeks. Hitting the fairway is no longer a disadvantage. 🙂

Bear Trace at Harrison Bay for Environmental Show of The South second week of May.

What do I need to know?

About the course? Beautiful lakeside setting, nice variety of holes, greens are always consistent (TifEagle or similar). Wide open off the tee.

A few of the fairways don't drain very well and always seem to be sodden. Holes #2, #5 and #12 come to mind.

When you're choosing tees, remember that the whites play quite short and the blues play quite long. There should probably be a set between the two IMO. There are also black tees but they're way back.

Edit: I see now that you're playing a scramble so they'll probably put you on the whites. There aren't any drivable par 4's but you'll have partial wedges in on a few holes.

I recently played there for the first time and I liked it a lot. Recently renovated course with great conditioning and a lot of variety.

They have a classic 60's-style clubhouse and the food is quite good. There's also a pool and tennis courts.

I don't know how easy it would be to get integrated into the membership there if you don't live in the Dalton area. Being from Chattanooga would seem to be an immediate strike against a new member.

It's now private and not owned by Luken. I don't know the specific prices but it should be very affordable.

People seem to like the course. It's a parkland layout with very few bunkers. They have a pretty good range if that's important to you.

I already have a membership in TN, but I was asking for a buddy that lives in cohutta so he has a better chance lol

My brother in law is a member and lives in Chattanooga. Said it was about a 3 month process of hoops to go through but loves it there.

I looked at Dalton CC when I moved here four years ago.  I just played it in the north GA four ball two weeks ago.  I love the course.  They were going to let me join as "out of state" and I was looking at homes in Apison.  It was a 25 minute drive max.  They asked me how many times I would play a month and I said "do you mean per week" LOL.

I would have joined had we bought in Apison but we ended up in Ooltewah.  Four years ago if I recall it was $5000 initiation I believe and like $250 per month dues for out of state.  It was insanely good.  I plan to play their invitational this summer.  It is a fun golf course.  Lots of good players there.

Prophetic statement that.

It must have rained Monday evening down there.  Tuesday afternoon the course was already wet and sloppy made worse by more rain off an on through out play.

I'd like to come back and play again starting on 1 this time.  The greens were in incredible shape save for one that had a little rash on it, #9 maybe.

Did they try to sand cap the fairways?  It looked like there was sand in some funny places out in the fairways where I would not expected it to be naturally.  But maybe that area has some sandy soil areas?

I'm not sure what they've been up to. I know we've had a super wet May and April was also drenched. I feel for the superintendents out there.

When the course was built they installed Bent Grass greens with fescue collars. The local construction company told Nicklaus Design that the climate wouldn't be good for those decisions but I guess they insisted. They said either build it like we designed it or you'll have to take Jack's name off it.

My main early memory of the course involves Bent greens that had been allowed to grow out for survival with rings of brown, shrunken fescue sod. It was awful.

Eventually the local management got rid of the collars and replaced the greens with hybrid Bermuda surfaces. Jack hasn't been by to complain, I guess.

Jack knows more than I do certainly but they were receptive though not soft and rolled very, very well.  I could seem them having the potential to get pretty spicy if it were truly dry.  Like, you better be below the hole if you want a chance spicy.

I am afraid they are now looking at a bunker renovation.  Many were washed out and some had liners in bad shape and pulled away from the faces.

Agree 100%.

Honestly I think they're getting themselves over a barrel. The price to play has gone up each of the last three years but course conditions don't currently justify the new pricing.

I feel like they're riding on reputation and lack of competition. There aren't many public courses in our area that come close to that kind of layout or setting.

A friend has a tee time on Sunday and I'm on the fence as it'll be $83 with a small bucket. I know the conditions and pace of play won't live up to that price point, and it's about 45 minutes from my house anyway, so my "want to" factor is trending lower.
