Who uses "modern classic" set-up?

This is simply wrong. The PGA player that lead the tour in approach proximity from 125-150 yards was 18'5", and the tour player with the best GIR % from 125-150 was 80%.

The stat also includes weather, slope in greens, and human error. I think a robot in a closed facility with precision matched balls and constant air pressure and temperature is the only situation where you would get 10/10 within 25 feet from 150 yards. I think a pro in the same conditions might be able to get 10 in a row, but not the first 10.

When I play... The following makes me think the person can play

Older but classic driver - i.e. Superquad, r7 425 just to name a few
Tommy armour irons or older ping models
One very used sand wedge
Crappy stand bag

These people tell me they keep what delivers solid results and don't care about the newest and shinest.

I always use working out .. As I am a personal trainer to balance it to golf..
Years ago.. All there was in a gym were a few chest press machines, squat rack, leg press , a few dumbells and a few cables..
They had amazing for bodies.. There was no yoga, P90X, nautilus machines.. Fancy butt blaster and what not. Those machines were simple and worked.

Similar as golf.. Then older stuff works just as good.. Yes tere comes a few technological advances that change things.. For example.. Adjustable loft which truly helps dial in a club without having to buy multiple clubs.

But all in all.. The average golfer would shoot within 1-2 strikes with clubs from 2004 to 2014.

BUT... We all love shiny new things!!!

If the tour player was merely trying to hit the middle of the green you would think so. But with 9 iron they will be flag hunting so there is a much smaller margin for error which the quoted stats show.

In a nutshell, these guys want you as a ringer. Their suggestion is that you get something to use when playing with them that does not give away the fact that you are a ringer.

Simple as that.
