My one round Callaway FT-5 Tour Review

Recommended Posts

Not what I expected.
First off let me start off by saying that the FT-3 Tour was one of my favorite drivers of all time. So I was expecting great things from this driver. I had a 9.5 with the stock Fujikura E360 in it. The shaft was horrible. Dispersion was terrible and the shaft was very inconsistent overall. I sprayed it everywhere and never found a consistent trajectory with it. The club was 20 yards shorter than most other drivers I have hit. I was very disappointed in the performance of this club. Thankfully I was demoing it from a great friend and he was happy to take it back from me. I want to think the total downfall of the club was due to the shaft, but I don't know for sure. I will not be buying one this year.

Not trying to be a smartWord not allowed but my question is, if the FT-3 was one of your favorites of all time why are you using a Superquad? Is the Superquad that good? I have been wondering about this driver.

thanks

Well I got rid of the FT-3 a while ago, big mistake, and I have been changing drivers. I just now picked up the SuperQuad and only because I got it for next to nothing. Haven't hit it yet, but I hit one with the stock shaft and really like it so I should really like it with one of my favorite shafts.

Well it was terrible for me. I had a PM702 Proto in my FT-3 and it was much longer.

W,

When I first tried the FT-5, I had the same problems. That shaft just doesn't work for me either. But don't give up so quick! Get on the Opti-fit, and give it another shot. I took 5 of my favorite shafts with me on the course, and tried them all, until I got the right one that works, and it WORKS! This thing hammers the ball, and dispersion was night and day.

I may try one with a Diamana 73 in it later on, but for now I will leave it alone. What shaft did you settle on? Oh the shaft was a stiff also which was a problem, but I have never cared for any Fuji shaft other than the 757.

That's funny, cause I was never a Fuji fan either!

PM sent on the shaft(s)...haha.

I use a Fuji Pro 95 in my FT-3, and agree with your statement about the FT-3 being one of my best drivers as well.

I am sure i will be pulling the Fuji 360 and replacing it with a Pro 95 as soon as i can send it to Joe K. I was surprised that while waggling the 360 it felt a little more stout than some other stock shafts.

Dude - You are comparing a stock shaft with a Diamana. The FT-3, FT-5, and Superquad are all awesome sticks. Not many will say the FT-5 (especially Tour) is not a good driver.

I'm sure I will try it again, but it will be a little while. I am sure it is a good driver, the shaft just wasn't.

i definetely think your bad experience was caused by the shaft not matching you...id definetely try the ft-5 again with a different shaft thats closer to the prototype 702 shaft...i've installed a 702, a pershing, a whiteboard, a blueboard, a rombax x and a accra sc65 in the ft-5's so far and nothing but great results...im now trying the pershing 65 in my ft-5 pro series and i like it! but im also contemplating on installing the matrix code 6 or the matrix x-con...

I had an FT-3 Tour with a E370 stiff in it. I think the butt section is pretty stout on these shafts, as mine actually frequencied in the soft X range. But, it launched pretty high with a fair amount of spin for me (around 4000 RPM's along with 10.5º loft and 16º LA.)

If the PM702 is a shaft of choice for you, the E360 probably was spinning like crazy.

That shaft is hideous, don't judge the club by that shaft. Try one with a Diamana blue or white board or an Epic shaft. All of those should be available after destruction testing is done for the optifit cart. I've got one with a White Board and have tried one with an Epic. The comparison between the E360 and these real shafts is laughable--totally different product..

The E360 for me is horrible(some will disagree)....but its just dead in my hands(very tip stiff) with not enough kick....I put a Axiv V 7072 into my FT-5 and it transformed the head...better feel and ball flight. However I still don't know that the FT-5 with be any better than the FT-3, besides being slightly more forgiving and different feel at impact...I haven't been on the LM with it, but I would guess it will be hard to match the Ball speeds of the ft-3..just my guess...
