I am traveling to Phoenix in May and I am looking for the locals favorite places to eat in the area.

Keeping in mind that I don't like fancy expensive places...

Dinner: The Mission; Cowboy Ciao; Pig & Pickle; Citizen Public House; Vintage 95; Becketts Table; Persian Room; Cafe Monarch; Solo Trattoria; J&G Steakhouse; Durants; Mastros; Houstons
-Tons more...but these are some of the best around

Breakfast: Matt's Big Breakfast, lolos.

Post round and casual:
pita jungle, Cornish pasty company, dheli palace
San Tan; beer isn't that good but thy have awesome fried chicken.
Mexican:
Los dos molinos, Los Olivos (boo macayos!!!)

Steak: Mastros(headed there tonight, can't wait), durants.

Other:
I really dig The Barrelhouse in chandler, it's in a strip mall but they have good food and great drinks.

Cornish Pasty is really really good food. Good beer too.

Speaking of MicroBrews: Desert Eagle Brewing(new favs), Arizona Wilderness(new favs), 4 Peaks; just in the brewing area: Sleepy Dog, Huss - nothing but the beer and chairs/tables

I absolutely hate Mexican food so I can't really speak about that but Barro's pizza is hands down the best pizza I have ever eaten out of any cityin the country I have ever been.

Also really enjoy Culinary Dropout. (order the pretzel balls and thank me later)

Izabellas at Grayhawk is a great place to enjoy a pizza and sunset with a few cocktails

Mexican Los Dos Molinos for sure

Breakfast I really love Butterfields on Scottsdale and Shea

Defalcos Italian Deli is fantastic good for a lunch place.

Haven't been to the Midwest yet but I have hit the so called pizza capitals of the world lol. You can never go wrong with pizza!



Even though I'm not a fan of Mexican food I have had a chicken burrito from Los Dos and it was very good.

There is also a sort of upscale restaurant in Scottsdale called "North" and they have THE best chicken Parmesan.

Azlefty is a good kid, but too young to speak on solid food haha (you know I'm messing with you dude.)

Really, AZ has alot to offer food wise but I always enjoy my choices much like I choose my rounds of golf: maximum return on minimum investment. Carolina's is a great fast mexica food joint, fresh tortillas, sketchy area. Los tortas del Rey is good. Chopshop in twmpe and scottsfale is solid.

Also, just got hime from Mastros now, I wis I could cuss on here to reiterate how good that place is.

I have lived here in AZ for nearly 10 years and other than Maestros, Ocean Club and the legendary Culinary Dropout (oneputtblunder aint kidding, you WILL thank him later on the pretzels) I have never heard of the restaurants they speak of BUT….I am sure they are good. Jalapeño Inferno next to Hornaceks gold shop is very good, Juan Jaimies is solid, Maggianos is awesome family style mexican and my personal favorite is Meritage at the Marriott after a nice round at wildfire…either course. My buddy owns Blue Adobe off of Shea and its awesome (mexican Southwestern food..again…sorry lefty).

Any of the FOX concepts is a solid destination and Butters on Shea is great for breakfast like 1putt said

Ah Jalepeno Inferno I always forget about that place but yes it is very good

authentic italian style pizza: cibo's (chef is from near naples, italy) , Pomo pizzeria

steak houses: BLT is top 3 i would say j&g redid their menu not too long ago and i wasn't crazy about the changes. durants is a cool steakhouse kind of a 40's gangster style atmosphere walking through the kitchen to get to your table.

traditional: the yard ( probably one of the coolest setups it can be a wait though), chelsea's kitchen, hillstone, becketts table (bacon paradise),

breakfast: scramble, snooze, talking stick resort (from what i heard their breakfast buffet is awesome)

hamburger: the stand their meat is grounded daily and not frozen. get their banana shake too!!!!

other good italian: babbo's, north trattoria.

Cool. Went to school there, actually moved to Phoenix from there. Where all did you play?

Breakfast: Snooze recently opened around Camelback and the 51. It's not as good as other ones Ive been to, but still delish.

Brunch: RnR in Scottsdale is a cool place to have brunch and watch a game on the weekends. Bottomless bloody marys/mimosas and menu has a Mexican slant to it.

Lunch: Hopdoddy is a casual place for an excellent burger, just opened recently.

Happy Hour: Postinos has good bruschetta and wine.

Dinner: Lots of good suggestions already... the Fox restaurants are all pretty solid... I think culinary dropout is a bit overhyped/expensive, but to each their own.

Other than that, no suggestions other than plz don't go to Macayos for Mexican.



PS: Thanks guys, I moved up from Tucson and the Mexican here in PHX blows thus far other than holes in the wall in S PHX I don't feel safe in, will have to try los dos.

I really enjoyed the pizza at Oreganos (spelling)? It is really thin crust pizza that they cut on the diagonal and it was amazing. They also do a deep dish skillet with a homemade choc chip cookie with vanilla ice cream, etc. Cowboy Ciao is great too. I am heading out there again in April.
