  1. Okay, so I'm going to be getting surgery on my back soon, as I have mentioned, so this will likely be my last hurrah for a while, the illustrious "Costa Mesa City." Joking aside, it's a great tournament at a fun, 2-course muni site that gets a legitimatley fantastic field with many guys over the years going on to play the Korn Ferry and/or PGA Tours. 2 rounds, one on a short course (5900ish?) and the other on a 6,500ish track. They set up the course ... way tough. Greens firm and bouncy. Every pin the the toughest places they can find, as they try to "protect" the course. I'm going to give it my all tomorrow and then see if I can play two days in a row, which is about a 50/50 proposition at this point with my back.

    HEAT!!!

LOVE THAT!! Only time I ever fainted in my life was in Palm Springs when I was "young and dumb" (now I'm just dumb). Buddy and I went out to play early in the morning with a "coupon book" to play some nice course in the middle of August. It was 90 degrees at 7:30am when we got there and then we started hitting range balls. For like ... an hour. How's that for dumb? And what people don't understand is that, while the Coachella Valley is VERY dry, it's not dry ... on a golf course ... in the morning! Oh my God, the water that they dump on the course over night is evaporating so fast that it feels like you are in a sauna. I passed out on the third hole and woke up in the clubhouse!!
  3. I don't doubt those numbers. But ... the numbers from FowlersCousin are CARRY numbers. They are not that far off. Professional courses are (generally) prepped VERY firm, so 20 to 40 yards of role is pretty standard.
  4. Yup. That guy is probably like our Torey Edwards. Just crazy good. There are, of course, quite a few more like him in California (we just how SOOOO many golfers), but the elite mid-ams are ... good. Very very good.

    HEAT!!!

Record for me was about 6 years ago. SCGA Amateur at Mission Hills CC in Rancho Mirage (the Palm Springs area). 118 on day one and 124 on day 2. Now THAT was hot.
  6. They most certainly do. Me and millions of others. And that's what this is about: personal preference. I'm done here (with you). As Andrew Dufresne said to Warden Norton: "How can you be so obtuse? Is it deliberate"?
  7. The sports themselves are generally not watched based on the participants' personalities. However people's "favorite players" are almost universally (partially) based on their personalities. This. Is. Not. Hard. People find different things "exciting" or "attractive" or "boring" or (insert flippin' adjective here). Why does this surprise you? Mark Fydrich (not boring) Don Sutton (boring) George Foster (boring) and one of my favorite players due to what he brought to the Big Red Machine Ricky Henderson (not boring) Bjorn Borg (boring) John McEnroe (not boring) Ilie Nastase (not boring) Need I go on?
  8. Do you think Jack and Arnie went about their business in the same way? Do you think their swings were simliar? Their facial expressions? Their ... personalities? Cuz ... they weren't. Do you think people thought that Jack and Arnie were "equally exciting" to watch play with no distinction between how people viewed them?
  9. No you're not. It's not that hard. I refuse to believe you can't get this. Personality is PART of what we enjoy. For some of us, the personality piece is MORE important than it is for others. For YOU (evidently) it plays NO ROLE. Come on, dude.
  10. Great question. If I still had my original Adams 4h that was 2° FLAT from the factory, I would still be using it. But I long ago lost that. I just haven't found a hybrid I like as much as the nine wood, which I have now had for about a year.
  11. You weren't asking me, but my bag is: Driver 4w 7w 9w 5h 6h 7h 8i 9i PW GW SW LW P
  12. He also moved the ball back in his stance a touch to hit draws -- especially with wedges, etc. In fact, I daresay he hit more draws with his wedges than cuts, which is true of a lot of elite faders of the ball: They fade their LONG clubs, but frequently DRAW their shorter ones.

Where are you, TiScape? I'm in SoCal and it's been crazy cool for us!
  14. I have been playing decent golf for a long time. Have been scratch(ish) or below since the early 90's. I have 3 aces now and countless "tap-ins." The story below, though, is my best "oh so close" story...
  15. Yup. Totally within the realm. And Steph Curry shot 74, 74, 71, 86 in four KF events at one point, as a legit +0.1.
  16. No, but if you make it 906, that should do the trick.
  17. When I was playing my very best in the late 90's and early 2000s, my set-up (very high hands and a straightish left arm at address) and grip (neutralish with the left and kind of "under" and strongish with the right) was very similar to Moe's. I developed it on my own in the early 90's whithout ever knowing who he was. I wish I had video from back then to see how close it was, actually. I was, of course, nowhere near the player that Moe was, but that's when I felt like I was most in control of my golf ball.
  18. Bring it. This is me a few years ago...
  19. Because you mentioned it. 🙂 I will never forget this day. Best battle of my golf life. Shot 69, 68, 64 and still lost by one to an amazing player and friend.
  20. Wow, dudes. Thanks for this. I have not been able to give this the time I would like due to work commitments, but that's the kind of thing I was HOPING he was discussing. If that's the case, then more power to him, and I've just become a fan. But I need to listen to the whole interview. I mean, I'm fully here for enemy driving and lamentations of women. Who isn't??? 😉
  21. I am on Golf Club Atlas, but that's the only architecture forum I'm on.
  22. Since last MRI. I have not had surgery. I HAVE had 3 epidurals and 2 nerve blocks, not a single one of which helped me more than a phocking DAY. Most people seem to get relief from those, but not me...
