  1. This is one of my favorite weeks of the year. For a couple of reasons. I do love watching links golf. I love to play links golf even though I suck at it. I just like the fact the Brits are OK with a course that's brown, the ground is like pavement, and the ball does wacky things when it hits the ground... and what about those bunkers?! Just love it. Then the fact its on at 4AM, yes please, sign me up to watch it early in the morning before I do my own silliness. Then, and this is the bigger reason, we schedule our member/guest on the weekend of the Open so if you tee off early you can watch some golf while eating breakfast (or a buddy of mine used to have a Bloody Mary party that started at 5AM, I was never invited but I always thought "How fun is that?"). So it's three days of frivolity and golf instead of the office and when they can, I have childhood friends come out and play. This year a kid I have known since the summer after 4th grade when he moved into the neighborhood is flying in from the east coast to participate. First day is best ball, second is a chapman and then the derby, then the third day is a Stableford type scoring based on handicap. Last year was my friends first golf tournament ever and he was so nervous, even though I explained I don't play in it to win it, I play it in it so he had a reason to come to MT. The last day we get paired with a guy whom I really like and he can sense the nerves so he proceeds to get my partner pretty drunk, we didn't have time for a sports psychologist so he used what was available to him, and he had a good enough time he is coming out this year. All of this to say, you won't see me around these parts until Sunday at the earliest.
  2. I would start the day of singles with this... Then I am sure you have the results from years past and the guys they have that win by a great margin pair them with the guys on your team who do not rise to the occasion and have the others play in competitive matches. But the most important part is the pre-match speech, and don't skimp on the trousers, make it real.
  3. I think I have alternate Fox. I wouldn't know him from a bar of soap. I won another week in the league so I have gotten my entry fee back and starting whenever it starts the FedEx is the end of the season for us and I have made the playoffs. Not sure of my seed, but I am in. I seem to be hot or cold. I am not afraid of coming in first and then coming in last.
  4. This is me. This year I thought I would try to be more aggressive and it lasted about 2 weeks before a buddy asked what I was doing because my putting was notably worse than it had been. And I am just wired this way, I try to be aggressive on the shorter putts, but even then when I think I was being aggressive I leave it 6" past. Sounds like he might need to be reminded playability isn't just for him, its for the guests too. Who wants to watch a guest ping pong a 5 putt because the greens are jacked up? I can answer that... no one. Nor does anyone want to be on the business end of a 6 hour round. I enjoyed your dripping 3' short comment.
  5. Some people don't get it, or at least I don't think so. Everyone is different, whether it's on tour or at the muni, some people see putts with speed ala Rickie Fowler and others see it dying in the hole like Schauffele who is one of the best lag putters. Rick Shiels had the guy who developed DECADE and they played nine holes and the guy says, "Never up, never in" is the worst piece of advice you can give because a 3 putt from short is the same 3 putt as when you blow it by the hole 6'. I am a die it in the hole guy and while I only mention the three putts (or worse) I am always shocked when they happen. I think it's all in how the individual see the line.
  6. I don’t like entering the scores but I really like GG. If Touch wanted he could send us the code and we could see who is doing what in real time. This is obviously for those unaware of Golf Genius. We follow the kids we know in their tournaments via GG. The state uses it as well, and has for years.
