Tips for maintaining posture and not dipping head in downswing
kiawah replied to TobesSC's topic in Instruction & Academy
Feel like your sternum/chest is rising as the club goes back and feel a deeper turn into your right hip OR a backwards (towards your rear) push out of the ball of your left foot to initiate your backswing -
He's only boring because he is so good that he doesn't ever really need to do anything exciting. But it is boring. Please throw in a double or a legitimately difficult par save Scott
-
Can you take Scottie now please
-
Well, it's been fun. I feel bad rooting against Scottie since he seems like a nice guy and obviously a great talent. But it's just not the most fun golf to watch.

I'm not sure it has crossed DJ's mind that he could do that. But that's also the same thing Bryson seems to do, so there are a range of results there, lol
-
Good thing the broadcast hasn't shown 200+ shots from this group. Oh wait
-
You ever see that video of DJ teaching how to hit a fade? "Here's how you hit a cut shot. And the most important thing about this shot is, you want to make sure it fades." Pretty sure that was his first and last foray into the golf instruction world
-
I guess, but with that outlook he could save himself a flight to the Open every July. It just doesn't work here. You can't hit a lob wedge from inside 100 yards every time, and that's kinda just his DNA
-
Yeah, but when golf has so few of those types that really get the scientific side of the game, it's cool to see (sparingly). DJ won multiple majors without being able to spell DJ. So it's nice to have a spectrum
-
Been a while since I've seen anyone on the broadcast hole anything substantial. Greens are probably not at their best after all the play so far
-
Super hot take: I really like Hovland but I almost feel like he is the next Rickie.
-
He is the ultimate bomb and gouge player, but guys like Rory can play bomb and gouge on some holes or courses and then not do that and attack the course in a more sustainable way. When is the last time you saw Bryson hit an iron off the tee on a par four? I can't even picture it. A guy with his speed could easily run it out there 270+ on a course like this and yet he just doesn't do it or doesn't do it often enough at least. His strategy (or lack thereof) kind of makes a bad round irredeemable for him
-
I'm not even a Bryson fan, but I am still impressed by his talent. That being said, his approach and refusal to play non-bomb-and-gouge golf holds him back in my view
-
Nah I totally agree he's so steady and unbelievable short game, has come close a few times
-
That one's on me russ
-
Where's the guy who said the course was looking gettable predicting the leaders to be at -7 lol
-
Like I said, there's no truth to the idea that what he does would work for everyone, but the fact that he is willing to be the only guy out there doing it his way is pretty remarkable to me.
-
I disagree, I think if he tried to have the regular approach we'd never have heard of him. He's been eccentric since high school or college.
-
Can Harris English just chill out
-
You can't possibly tell me that you are watching Russell Henley out here in the rain pants and not think he is built for this.
-
They can make up for that in the aggregate.
-
I'm not saying they're viable for everyone. I'm saying that he believes in the physics of them and benefits from using them. In a lot of ways, the fact that he is the only guy doing it impresses me more.
-
I mean the way he putts and the makeup of his irons are totally different from what other pros are doing. I think his air density calculations are a bit eccentric along with other stuff like that, but he is definitely his own person. I respect it.

GIR and putting skills ? Feels? on / off days?
kiawah replied to Saijin's topic in Instruction & Academy
I think you're probably playing the right way, to be honest. If you end up 20-30 feet at worst 14-17 times per round, your fair share will probably go in. I always look at it as I have a better chance of holing the long ish putt than the short sided chip if I go for it UNLESS the surrounds of the green are really flat and not all that scary.
