Golf is one of if not the most difficult sport. Mentally. Of course it’s going to frustrate . I can say this. In a former life I was a very high level track athlete. That had a cup of coffee with a high level college basketball team. I did both my whole life. Quit cold turkey around 23 . Then I did nothing athletic till 35 and started golf. And immediately went whole hog , and was a plus handicap pretty quick , playing in as high as usga qualifiers , missing out by a shot or two several times. Point is. I’ve never been ready to kick my own arse playing basketball against future nba players. As I did for several summers . ( Kevin Garnett being one) or running track sub 49 seconds in the 400m. Which in the 90s was smokin for an amateur.all of that was easy. Mentally. Just taxing physically. It wasn’t a mental struggle at all. It wasn’t until I played tournament golf that I realize how mentally stunted I was. Real talk. Golf is like chess in the heat. But no. I don’t condone those like Rahm being a baby. He’s retired. He should have made peace with not being on top anymore.

Well. That sucked. Recorded. Then They changed Chanel. I miss it. Well yay. I have Stenson and Brysons front 9. That’s it.

Good eye. Meaning. Shane. Yes. That’s a good way to describe my “ natural “ shot shape and general way I learned to play. Straight up and down. , flighted and falling right. id be interested to see a right now video too. These pics were taken BEFORE some work to get a little farther from the ball and work on less cut. More straight with driver. I have different “ feel “ now. I don’t know what it looks like. I hate looking. Loathe it. I keep saying I’ll grab some. Always tired. Don’t play much. Just hit balls slowly for kicks. Need a phone stand. Those are my excuses 🤣

Appreciate the detail. I smell what you’re stepping in. 🤣. Communicate pretty well. Or you’re good at humoring me. Thumbs up either way. Because i understand what you just said. for curiosity sake i looked at myself and im not sure id call me “ late “. Also not early. as a side note. Curiosity makes me say this. I wonder where I skipped the “ suck it inside “ stuff at ? Possibly starting as an adult with clubs that were too short for me ? Meaning standing close and swinging up and down was the only possible way for me to reach the ball. So dumb luck ? Anyway. Here’s a random still or two showing a bad angle from rear. And a face on. To show wrists etc. I really should take some good video one day. Just haven’t. And no I don’t normally dress like a hobo in public. I hit balls at home. So 🤦♂️ ps. More I look. Maybe I am early ? Or way before late ? 🤨. Maybe it just doesn’t “ feel “ early because it’s not a trigger to start the swing ? I trigger off my belt buckle moving.

Wasn’t him. It was hicks I think. Just his hall monitor take on the moving ball. Probably just me not liking his voice 🤣

All that is fair enough as far as opinions go. But as per usual with me. It brings up more questions. What is “ correct “. ? And why is it not something I see shown anywhere? I believe that I preform “ correct “. But much like riding a bicycle. I couldn’t tell you what I’m doing on a technical level . I just do it. That isnt me claiming perfection. It’s me sayin that correct must be a moving target. Or a spectrum. Or a wide range of something. Otherwise I’m one of those naturals that doesn’t exist. And I’m not the only one . I play with others. 😂.

If you know. You know. 🤣

I have no idea. It may. I just didn’t care for the snark from the announcer. It’s the non golf guy. Meaning not bones fax or Kisner. And not the Italian guy (Torico sic?) … the other guy.
-
I’m for it. Definitely better for the environment for all to swing from one side.
-
Announcers playing “ ball moved “ police ? The one guy should try to not sound quite so hall monitor ish.

Man yes . Wife’s boss is huge on these “ meetings “. They’re just things to justify his job existing. He does next to nothing in real work. He’s a “ change for the sake of change “ guy. Brings my wife an accounting system he wants to demo. She says “ no. They don’t do xy or z “. He says “ let’s get the rep on the phone and ask. So they do. She asks. The lady says “ well no. But people don’t really account for all that anymore , when can we schedule a Demo “. Wife says “ we’re not interested “. New boss is speechless. After the call he says “ well I think we should look at it “. Wife says “ we just did “ 🤣. Then adds “ before you came the person in your job embezzled millions . I caught her. And implemented these measures as a stop gap. You want me to ask the partners if they’re ready to stop those procedures “? He turned ghost white and said “ nnnno. I don’t guess so “. Go back to sleep dude. Let the adults work.

GIR and putting skills ? Feels? on / off days?

I’d proceed with caution if adding aggression. Being a Phil mickelson type myself , it’s a dark hole if you go down that path completely. Most of us don’t get to play enough to overcome the mental lows of playing that way. You can do it if you play daily. Because as most gamblers say “ my luck will be better tomorrow “. This is a fact because -You WILL get bucked off once or so a round. And then you end up averaging one double bogey a round. That’s no fun. Then there’s the rounds where you hit it close all day. And still make none. Go there if you want to. But once you do. You’ll know that working to hole more putts isn’t a sin. It’s a must when playing aggressive. Although many will tell you putting is an afterthought. im just saying take one aspirin. Not the whole bottle. Inch it in aim wise , for pins that are less dangerous. Playing to the middle and putting to the corners usually works best on hard greens. Many here act as if they’ve never played on hard green complexes. My home courses defense is its greens. No flat spots. Places that you better not miss on. Or it’s auto bogey. So you have to learn where not to hit it. -
Right. The amg video says what I’m saying. They do a good job of saying it depends. And showing why. I’m just saying that soooo many teach otherwise. And that the argument here has always been treated as “ early good. Late bad” with rarely if ever defining either. When pushed I did have a wonderful private convo with one instructor here that explained why late was bad for average golfers. And . That I wasn’t late. Just not early. And that “ outliers “ can be later because of wrist and hand strength. That common players don’t posses enough to be later. All that makes sense . But it just doesn’t enter these heated debates here. In fact. I asked privately BECAUSE of one of these heated debates. Which made me wonder if I was “ late “ and if early would be better. After trying to set straight off the ball and seeing that it made for a poor swing. I questioned it. Only to find that “ it depends “ 🤣. Which is a face palm moment after you just witnessed someone right fight to the death to say early is the only way. i believe that ALL of us here are well intended. But if you can fool a plus handicap into wondering if he’s missing something. Then surely it sways average guys a ton. Right ? Every time I think it’s all settled science. AMG or similar says “ nope. Here’s the measurements don’t do that extreme either “. At what point do we stop ?

Does anyone familiar with hack motion understand the green vs red in the video? As in which is good zone which is bad ? It seems to be not liking what they are saying is bad . As in contradictory. also. Maybe this video can be a future reference for stopping the speaking in absolutes ? As in “ early wrist set is good. Late wrist set is bad “. The truth is always in the middle , coupled with a “ it depends “. And I mean in any subject golf or non golf. I’ve seen this argument here a million times. And I’ve never read anyone say “ wrist set can be too early “ , unless you’re a late set guy. It’s always refreshing to see someone be forced to hear all sides because they’re being confronted with measurements. Great video. Minus the hack motion sales pitch.

Well. I looked. And I missed it thanks. I’ll close.
-
very interesting. Someone who knows hack motion. It seems confusing to me. Is the red the good zone and the green the bad zone ?

Well put. I missed the video to begin with. And scrolled down to see if the ubiquitous “ post a video “ guy had asked him to -“ prove it “ yet. 😜. Great playing @Sean124 Similar age and athletic ability boat as you . This gives a fellow working Player encouragement. Thanks Monte for posting it. Although Sean should have posted it himself. ( my opinion). We all deserve credit and in fact NEED it at times. whether we think so or not. -
Do clubs, shafts, custom fitting actually matter

You absolutely fit to stats on a real putter fitting. Have you never been on a monitor for a putter fitting ? It’s more info than driver. It will even show your aim tendencies with differ shaped heads. Some people align some shapes horribly. And some perfectly. And it repeats. You really should do that. It’s a crazy amount of info . -

I’m not sure I said anywhere that distance wasn’t king. I said that most won’t maximize and gain much over what they already hit straight. . But from players I see there’s much to gain from cleaning up putting. The amount of 3 putts and missed 3 footers I see every round greatly out numbers the balls we look for in the woods. I played Saturday with a 14 a 5 and 21 handicap. And we didn’t search the woods one time. On a tree lined course. im not making the argument you think i am. Im speaking of the everyday player. Not the top tier guy. Which I thought was the mantra around here? Don’t count outliers as rule of law. What I mean by that is. Take your average 60 year old 15 handicap. You aren’t going to find 20 yards in his driver. Won’t happen. Need 5 mph plus more speed to get it. But you can absolutely cut his 3 putts to less than 1 a round on average.( or in that neighborhood ). Lessons and a good fitting will do that. No speed needed. this is where we get into the theoretical vs practical argument. All those stats aren’t shotlink on the local muni. Right ? It’s shotlink of the outliers. By ALL means maximize driver. But why do we put the most used club as an afterthought ? Dead last as the poster put in his list . -

I simply bought , tried. Sold the culls. Kept the maybes. Tried some more. Sold those failures . Kept the good. After 4-5 years you notice the pattern of what works. So it narrows down the “ test “ subjects to begin with. im not making any huge indictments etc. im not anti fitter etc . I know im an outlying picky player ( person ). But the video of Tiger saying “ takes one swing “ … I said “ yup”. I know exactly how that feels. Sometimes That’s very literally it. I’m hard headed so I might hit 4-5 balls. But a hard no is very easy to see. For me. Same for a hard yes. 1 ball. My 4 wood. Was a perfect fit after 1 ball. From there I just enjoyed putting it through its paces. Wedges and irons same. I’d give my right big toe to feel that way about a driver. I never have. But I chalk that up to a ME problem. part of this is me liking heavy shafts. I’ll play a 70 in my driver a lot. 80 in my 3 wood etc. 120-130 in irons. Anymore that’s hard to find at a fitter. But like I said I’ve narrowed it down to as narrow as “ I like Nippon iron shafts” which is why pings stock shaft also works. Made by Nippon. Kicks etc same . I like GD in woods. They launch easy. Suit my release and feel. The HD and ADDI being favorites. I prefer the blue board profiles in a driver. Tensie blue suits that. Mitsubishi almost always feels the best there. Kurokage XT being another. I haven’t really dabbled much since 2023 or so. Just stayed where I am. Except that damn driver. 🤣 -

Not the stats argument. How’s -4.9 strokes gained a round for stats ? That’s my worst running average. Back around 2018. I carried a +2.9 handicap at that time. 🤣. I do not understand why folks say this , when you use the club twice or 3 times as often as driver. ? I play with alll skill levels. And the amount of good putters I play with is very very few. You can find a straight driver any day of the week with today’s tech … and he might be a 12 handicap. You can maximize his driver and gain , maybe , 8 yards. But I doubt even that. Making 3 more putts a round will drop that guys handicap way faster. agree to disagree I guess. I get that context changes opinions. -

Put putter above driver. You use it way more.
