Are you a good student/proper practice
TheDeanAbides replied to GoGoErky's topic in Instruction & Academy
Fair. I don't think we're much different, really. I was struggling to get past my notion of 'slow motion' being like that Hogan exercise. -

Again, by slow motion do you mean 10% of your normal speed or 50%? Edit: I do a very similar thing, but I make some 50% swings - actually, I go as slow as I need to feel that I'm integrating the change. So, I'll go to, say, P3 a few times slowly to get the feel, then make a P3 swing at 50%. I'll check it to see if I made the change. Repeat until it feels like I own it, and then I'll go quicker. I think backswing changes are pretty easy, but transition changes require more slow swings to integrate. I'll probably do kinda pump drills for those. I'm interested because you've made some good changes, but I do think that there's no hard rule. Some people have better body awareness than others. -

That's not the Moe people copy, though. Young Moe had a much more conventional swing - a genuinely great swing.

Give yourself a better chance to turn effectively by having a bit more room at address. You're very cramped and close to the ball. Your first move is a little bit too down and out - watch out for that. With regards the overswing, honestly, that's a Nike Drill - just do it. You may have to think about ending the swing at P3 to get to the top of the swing position you want. The biggest issue is your transition move, though. You shift everything close to ball and cramp yourself even further. You need to work on your pelvis to get the feeling that it all stays back longer to create space. With your cramped setup and then the EE in transition you have no space to release effectively.

This thread is the best of Wrx.

Post a swing. There's a reason why you can't shorten it - almost always sequencing - but it's definitely a Nike Drill situation for most. Post a swing though, and we'll help you.

Again, are we talking slow motion, like the old footage of Hogan, or slower than full speed swings? I see very little value in slow motion swings other than as a meditation, but slower than full speed is critical - say, 50% of your full speed or smaller swing. Anyone who says those are bunk is a moron. -

Slow swings or slow motion swings? They're not the same thing. -

This is a huge problem. you should always know what your teacher's philosophy is. Otherwise it's like investing in a new car after getting rid of your functional old one, but nobody tells you what you're buying. I'm amazed that you did this as a low cap player. -

We're all getting old in that case, fella. -

And that's exactly why you need a coach to teach you the basic principles of improvement. -

Do what @virtuoso said. You're currently trying to learn calculus when you don't know your multiplication tables. -
I used to love taking photos of people with different focal length lenses and then showing them how different they looked. I recall seeing an article with a series of portraits of the same model taken at every focal length from 20mm to 200mm. I always shot my headshots with a 200mm because of that.

Doesn't stop you pulling it into the left rough, though.

I've never understood this. It's only effective if you can guarantee that shape, and very few people can. It also only makes sense if you can control the amount of curve.

Right Hand, Right Eye Dominant Golfers
TheDeanAbides replied to iceman1118's topic in Instruction & Academy
I haven't read the thread, but I guess I'm in a small minority of left-eye and left-hand dominant golfers who play righty? -
I call that a power fade.

Could watch that all day.
-
And even with the whole system, I doubt any am could make it work consistently.

My Road to Improvement - 7/9/25 new swing video

I'm glad that you're seeing some changes. What it shows is that perfect isn't necessary when your goals are shooting in the 80s - and you will be able to do that in the future with sustained effective pattern change. -
Okay, fair. It's just what the other guys said then, really.

What do you think a drill is? Why do you think the rope thang isn't a drill?
