Cage Match to the DEATH: LPGA Tour vs. Middle-aged Scratch and Below
Pnwpingi210 replied to Obee's topic in Tour Talk
I saw a couple rounds of the lpga at sahlee last year. there is zero chance a scratch golf goes out on that course they played and shoots anything close to what they put up over 4 rounds. The only chance a scratch men’s golf would have is if you compared the score a scratch would shoot ( my guess is low to mid 80s) against a lpga golfer that wasn’t playing well that day and continued to take on risk and failed since it was tournament golf and they had not choice to do that to make the cut. Thats the fallacy of taking an lpga tournament rounds and comparing them to what a scratch might shoot. head to head if the lpga pro knew they only needed a 78 to beat the scratch male golfer they would have no problem. -
There are some that are straight poopooing it in this thread sure. I think to majority arent necessarily poopooing YouTube golf, but take the opinion that Grant Horvat has little to offer the pga tour at this point and a more to gain from the pga tour. i like YouTube golf and consume a lot of it. As a business owner that works with some very large companies, I can also see where the pga tour understands the value of the their brand (billions with an s) and the value of grant brand ( less than 10 million). Big companies don’t “share” their brand unless there is significant gain for them. They don’t make lopsided deals, or don’t make them often, if they want to continue to be a big company 🙂

No, his screenshot proved his point. he wasn’t arguing Grant wasn’t generally popular. interesting you say “they want people that are real in front of the camera”. That’s fascinating as almost all of them are playing a character to support a manufactured brand. I’d argue that the real one are the small channels with mostly unknown faces focusing on more raw golf and the least popular.

The problems with being a creator is you have to constantly come up with new schtick to not be stale…..eventually they get burned out or we just get tired of their face. I think most of the learned from the early creators is you have to quickly have a product or merch you sell to sustain and revolve your brand and business. YouTube creators shelf life is pretty short. Burn hot, fast and quick (relatively) and sell clothes, equipment, candy, insert commodities for long haul.

A scratch player against Phil Mickelson with a 700 yard advantage....

I’m not being a jerk. I find the colorful hyperbole to be entertaining. I’m sharing a perspective. Just like you share a perspective in response of all these people that love and are entertained by your posts (which I am one of them) -
Barracuda networks. it was a sponsors invite….

They are entertaining, in the same way a j Peterman bit on Seinfeld is entertaining. agree we are here to be entertaining. for reference I’m in the same handicap range of all these what if scenarios so I find them very entertaining -

These threads and their anecdotes read like a j peterman (Seinfeld version) ad 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 -
This is all good stuff. I use pretty heavy components, and as long as I keep my fitness and strength program up and running I’m fine. If those start to lax my I lose some strength and my equipment gets heavy feeling and my backswing starts to lengthen. It’s worse the longer the club and particularly with driver. I also noticed if I try something significantly lighter, like a friends club, my backswing is shorten. YMMV in summary it could be how your reacting to equipment that is not optimal

You get it!

Bingo. Generally when companies can’t pay you for endorsing them when they have no money/cashflow they give you ownership stake….. we know tm turns one but the rest🤷

He gets to make a content series about it….which is what he does…..

To be fair we don’t know if Takomo, primo, or wellness make a profit so the stake in those companies might worthless We also don’t know the details of his tm sponsorship. 5k,50k, 500k? Atleast we know they are profits or though. you are hitting on something though. If the pga tour does do something with hims, they are going to want a part of his company in sure

What is the value to prop to get in the space with these guys? the pga tour is a billion dollar entity and media rights agreements all ready in place over the next 10 years or so will net them billions (plural) more. What grant is pulling in is Pennie’s in comparison. Grants leverage is zero to negative, as he’s really the one that gains something from this. the argument people are making for partnering is like asking Starbucks to let a couple of teenagers setup their own coffee stand in one of their stores….like why????

Have you heard back? He was in the site yesterday after this post and after the mod reached out -
Can someone tell me what the pga tour gains from letting Horvat film? their a for profit business and just because you get more eyeballs on your product doesn’t mean it translates to dollars, since all eyeballs aren’t created equal in a business sense

I have 923 tour and s3. s3 is a smaller, less offset, and get through the turf orders of magnitude better. the jpx 923 tour 4-5 irons are noticeably easier to hit. 9-6/7 is a wash

It’s an anecdote, but this sounds about right.
